I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the number of employees will either stay the same or decrease... they probably have certain regulatory and compliance obligations that will disappear once they are no longer affiliated with government, and I'm sure some of the corporate back-end will end up being handled by the new parent. Even if the business grows I don't see them hiring more people to offset the ones they'll be losing, at least not within the next few years.

Keeping them around as a Winnipeg-based head office would have to count as a silver lining, though... it could have been even worse.

I don't disagree that the monopoly was outdated. By Ritz and the Cons in Ottawa pulled illegal and shut it down. There was no vote, no nothing. As should've happened, per the legislation that was in place. Ritz is just another weasel politician trying to leave a legacy. I can't 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 stand politics, just a huge sham.

It does appear like a net positive for Winnipeg, regardless of which side of the fence you were sitting on with the issue when it came down to the governments decision to privatize the monopoly formerly know as the CWB.

Right now the CWB is just another grain elevator like Viterra, Paterson, Richardson, Cargill or P&H. If their new elevator on 75 is higher price than Morris I'm sure most farmers in that area will haul there.

The biggest beneficiaries of the end of the monopoly are the farmers close to the U.S border who can haul wheat across the line. Every farmer though the wheat price would go sky high after CWB but that has not happened..if anything it went down.

CWB is in the grain business and is now private, just like all the other snowmobile mentions. Just unfortunate they are now owned by non-Canadians. Profits will go out of country. Except for whatever that farmer fund is, which is sorely lacking details at this point in time. Maybe someone else has a better background on that side of things.

Basically I've been working my 🞵🞵🞵 contracted by CWB for the last two years. Now the Saudi's will come in and destroy the company. You watch. Hopefully Bunge can at least keep things in check.

Government privatizes wheat board with sale to Saudi-owned company

WINNIPEG - The federal government is privatizing the Canadian Wheat Board with a sale to a Saudi-owned company.

G3 Global Grain Group will get 50.1 per cent of the company in exchange for an investment of $250 million. The other 49.9 per cent will be kept in trust for farmers who deliver grain to the board.

Any farmer who does deliver will get $5 per tonne in equity in the organization. In seven years, G3 Global Grain Group has the option to buy back the shares from farmers at market value.


So the farmers will get some decent cash in seven years. It's basically a way of attracting and establishing the business. Then company will then be 100% owned by foreigners....


AND G3 is "investing in the company". As in they are getting it for free. They will get all the new elevators, the ports, ships, railway that CWB bought. All for an investment in the company. Yes this is true and something Gerry doesn't want you to know he's full of 🞵🞵🞵🞵.
