Yeah I could be wrong on the 1,200' even but I am pretty sure there was a diagram that listed 1,140 something as the height of the top floor, not the height of the building.

Where else was the 1200' figure coming from though? Not saying I doubt your judgement I just wondered if it was written officially anywhere.

Is this building expected to start this year?

Most of the comments were something along the lines of "Great design, BUT WON'T SOMEONE PLEASE THINK ABOUT THE DOGS!?!!?" Seriously, like ten people were there and bitched about their limited access points to the lakefront trail with their dogs now that they banned dogs in Maggie Daley Park. The other half of the crowd was concerned about the current problems they have with late night motorcycle rallies on the Wacker Drive turnaound.

The most important aspect of this project from an urban planning persepective is how it will connect all the disjointed portions of LSE together. They plan on not only linking the upper levels for pedestrians, but also linking Harbor Drive to Wacker with a new roadway that passes through the building on the level above harbor drive (creating an upper Field drive) thus completing a loop from Upper Wacker to Upper Randolph. That's going to do wonders for the connectivity of this area.

There is also going to be a fantastic new tunnel through lower Field drive and lower Wacker that will link the riverwalk and park together. Gang flashed some pretty cool concepts for this space on the scene including a curved stainless steel funnel like entrance drawing people in from LSE Park.

Don't know if I saw it written, but the diagram they showed suggested 1,144' was "Floor 93".

They said they expect it to take a little over 3 years to complete and hope to have shovels in the ground "about a year from now".

IIRC, construction won't commence until 2016...that may change considering Wanda is financing 90% of this project...at least initially they were planning on it.

Yeah they said they expect to start about a year from now, but also made it sound like the limiting factor was getting the appropriate approvals from the city in terms of the PD amendment and permits. I'm sure the financing will be there the day the city gives the green light.

Very few of the comments seemed directly related to the building itself. . . one notable exception was a 2 year resident of the Regatta who seemed surprised noone else in the audience brought up the height. . . she seemed shocked that the building was so tall and that it would ruin her little slice of heaven with concerns of people gawking from upper floors while she's sunbathing by the pool (I'm not kidding you, that's what she said). . . Reilly didn't seem at all impressed with her argument. . .

I don't feel like the project is going to change all that much. . . but that remains to be seen of course. . .

So the 1,200 figure was never actually written anywhere? If the floor count is 93 it is possible that it got bumped up. While 1144 is a good height I would prefer a little edge over the other Chicago buildings of similar height.

i'm loving the refinements to this project. the elimination of most of the inset balconies and their related racing stripes running up the facade is by far the best part.

and i'm very pleased to see that the alternating frustums haven't been completely VE'd out of the design as i had feared from the earlier rumor of a budget-busting structural cost estimate. they certainly look like they've been softened a good deal, and that's not entirely a bad thing. VE isn't always a unilateral curse, it can at times serve to help reign in flamboyance.

all in all, i like the direction this project is heading.

Maybe level 93 is the roof, it's pointing to the top.

Also, what's the sub whacker and upper whacker thing? If this is measured from 50 feet underground than the roof is actually 1094 feet.
