Looks like perhaps both. This shoring appears to be on the eastern end of the site, where the residential tower will be built:

You are looking at 16th street near the onramp to I-676 west.

I can't believe this is starting! It's probably my favorite project taking place in the city right now, namely because it's going to dilute both the expressway and its onramp.

The Mormons don't mess around. Gotta love the ambition and ability to get this done. Their projects are class A and I would like to see them continue to see Philly as a positive place to do business, because they are smart business people.

Someday the top floors of this thing will have excellent views of City Hall, Logan Square, Penn Center, and the W and SLS looking down Broad almost simultaneously.

I walked by this site the other day. A real nice hole in the ground with construction moving alone nicely. It's my wish that one day, the city will reconfigure that awful on-ramp to 676. Densely populated areas almost always use the parallel service road highway entrance design (e.g., eastbound 676 entrance at Broad and Vine). Why the designers decided to use an entire city block to create a suburban style clover highway entrance is a complete mystery to me (any historians here know the story?). Philly Fan's image really shows what a complete waste of space that design is. I'm still surprised to see that townhomes will be facing this space but god bless em because the street look 10x better when the tower is complete.

Excavation still underway. There must be a lot of rock on site, they are drilling like crazy.

I remember there being an issue with rock at the temple site. This part of Philly must have a hard rock close to the surface. I remember it caused a small delay in the temple construction and a spokesperson saying something religious like "God set this obstacle in front of us so we have sturdy foundation"

Since this project is going to have sub grade parking its probably going to take quite a bit longer than some of the other new residential stuff that has gone up or is under construction where all parking is above street level. Id think they are going to be under ground for the rest of the summer at this site.
