Most European leagues run from August to May, so they play in a lot of dreary weather (especially the northern leagues) during the winter and spring part of their season. MLS (which also plays during the spring season) has more covered stadiums than any other North American league. Baseball also plays in the spring, but of course they tend to cancel games when it rains.

I definitely prefer no canopy as I would much rather be in the sun than shade. Of course we don't get much rain in Calgary save for June.

New Mosaic looks great BTW - they are just flying.

When BMO Field gets that roof (plus the northern stand and roof), it'll have a similar appearance to the Premier League Stadiums, with the exception of the newest facilities. Nice seats as well!

Just looked it up. It's from the episode 'Contagion', in the second season.

Sounds like Timmies Field has experienced "leaky" problems not unlike those at Investors Group Field.

http://www.thespec.com/news-story/55...lays-continue/

The latest challenge for beleaguered builders Ontario Sports Solutions was a mass failure of waterproofing seals in the stands that caused leaks into rooms and offices below.

The seals letting go was a big one.

Lloyd Ferguson

Councillor

"The seals letting go was a big one. They spent most of the winter fixing that," said the city's Pan Am committee chair, Coun. Lloyd Ferguson, who recently toured the stadium and talked to construction officials.

Ferguson said water-damaged drywall was the main casualty, but added he didn't know how much the repairs cost or who was to blame. Infrastructure Ontario spokesperson Terence Foran said via email the contractor is responsible for the repairs under the contract and added the project remains on budget.

Some minor "deficiencies" remain, Ferguson said, while other problems — like rooms that are smaller than planned — will likely be solved through financial negotiations.

Stadium is nearly 1 year behind the original completion date just like Investors Group Field. Some events have been cancelled due to the delays.

As a nerdy Treky I'm so proud my city hall will always be part of the Star Trek genre. I bet had they done that episode 20 years later that might have been the BOW instead.

One of the most ironic namings in Canadian history, which btw, was entirely courtesy of the Feds.

The initial idea of a new airport was that Montreal would continue to grow as the supreme city in Canada and that air traffic would be centered in the area. At the time, they though "might as well build a central connector for all flights in eastern Canada".

Mirabel was an ill thought out compromise. The Feds wanted it in Vaudreuil, with good access to existing infrastructure and a close proximity to Ottawa while Bourassa wanted it in Drumondville, as he thought it should be far from the Ontario border. They settled on Mirabel.

As for the Olympic Stadium, I don't see it as the epic fail people seem to point to. Montreal had the Olympics, which might have counter-acted some political issues that ended up hurting Montreal and Québec and it was home to the Expos (therefore well used) for 27 years. The rest of the central Olympic event space is well used for the touristy Biodome and botanical gardens.

Even today, with significant investments needed, I think it is worth fixing up the so-called "Big O" as opposed to building a new stadium all together. It's a good size for a possible return of the Expos and an icon of the city.

As for the rest of the Olympic Village and the area around it, redevelopment should be considered.

I have to agree...born and raised here. This city has indeed undergone a metamorphosis in the last 10 years.

Stay tuned....more to come.

I grew up 2.5 hours away from Edmonton (still live there) When I was young I remember getting close to the City and seeing the skyscrapers silhouette before you even hit the city limits and I was in Shock of how tall they were. By 18 years old I had been to basically every other western city in this country and some in the US. I pegged Edmonton as the biggest ****hole in Canada. I don't see it that way anymore. I'm actually thinking of relocating to the Alberta capital. It's a way more livable place than it was 10 years ago (I'm 28 now) I would love to get a condo right in the Arena district. I Wouldn't buy season tickets to the Oilers but I would definitely make sure i'm in the building when the Jets are in town. Good job Edmonton what a beauty that place is gonna be among the other projects that is Quickly making Edmonton a preferred choice over Calgary.
