[QUOTE=shivtim;6984486]A building permit comparison can help to shed some light on the issue:

In the past 30 or 40 years the city of Atlanta has never been near the top of this list, and now it's been #1 for the past two years.

Thanks for this graph. It is very impressive and if you combine the City with Fulton it is even more impressive particularly as this includes a lot of construction in the area north of Buckhead and at the Perimeter. Thus the spine of high rises from Downtown through to the Perimeter is really developing at a fast pace.

They have been toying around with this for a while - it was originally announced almost 18 months ago.

Looks like another development to happen near White Provisions at Howell Mill and Brady.

Note: Paywall cuts off article but looks like they are going to "keep" the Northside Tavern "somehow"?

Alta at the Park filed land dev. permit, looks like is remaining an apartment building:

Alta at the Park AKA 205 12th Street
Land disturbance for a mixed-use development consisting of 194 aparment units and 2571sf of retail space. This will include grading, drainage, detention, sanitary and other utilities, pavement, and ersion control. The consolidated property has two existing building that will remain.

Also Fuqua filed permits for demolition of those old apartments in Lindbergh behind the Home Depot so the new Kroger development is moving closer to fruition.

1010 W. Peachtree Hanover project was issued demo permit so I expect demo to start soon there.

Great to hear, especially on 1010 and Alta.

Anything new to report on 880 West Peachtree?

Huzzah for increased density, but it kind of sucks that most of the view of 1075 Peachtree (pretty cool looking office tower, IMO) is going to be blocked by a generic looking apartment building.

Seven firms bid to develop GWCC convention hotel

The Georgia World Congress Center Authority (GWCCA), the agency proposing the project on its campus, has released the following list of finalists, according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle:

• Arcadd, Inc. Newton, Mass.-based Arcadd Inc. lists international projects such as Baghdad City Hall on its website.

• Capella Hotel Group. Atlanta based Capella Hotel Group, led by legendary hotelier Horst Schulze, a co-founder and former president and chief operating officer of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Co. Capella is his new collection of ultra-luxury hotels, which have opened in places including Sochi, Russia for last year’s Winter Olympic Games.

• Drew Company. Boston, Mass.-based Drew Company was behind projects such as Comcast Center in Mansfield.

• Garfield Public/Private. Dallas, Texas-based Garfield Public/Private has a portfolio that includes convention centers and hotels in New Mexico, Michigan, Oregon and Puerto Rico.

• Hines. Global firm Hines has a strong Atlanta portfolio that includes key pieces of the city's skyline, such as the 1180 Peachtree, One Atlantic Center and the One Ninety One Peachtree towers.

• Legacy Property Group/Stormont Hospitality. Atlanta based Legacy, led by David Marvin, has a vast downtown portfolio that includes the Embassy Suites Atlanta at Centennial Olympic Park and the Hilton Garden Inn Atlanta Downtown, as well as several restaurants including Der Biergarten and Twin Smokers, which opened in late 2014. Stormont, led by Jim Stormont, is the same developer that’s planning a $100 million hotel and conference center at Alpharetta’s Avalon. The developer also built hotels near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport including the 403-room Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway.

GWCCA expects to name a developer in May.
It had sent out the request for qualifications in January to build a hotel between 800 and 1,200 rooms.

I live in one of the adjacent condos, and apparently the developer was under the impression that the property they were purchasing was larger that it really was. There is a mutual easement between 811 Peachtree and 805 Peachtree and the original design called for them building well over the easement. The 805 HOA would not allow that without some form of compensation (understandably).

Which explains the delays AND why they have gone back to the drawing board to build it even higher!

So, even though it will literally block out the sun in my condo AND I'll have to live through probably 2 years of construction noise and all the other fun stuff (road closures, etc.) that comes with it, I'm excited to see development really going on my side of Midtown.

I'm thinking real hard about a mountain cabin north or an oceanfront condo in FL for the same duration.

Interesting article regarding the Related Group from Florida trying to get into the Atlanta condo market since 2006. If Jorge Perez gets a foothold in Atlanta you can bet he is going to build more than just a couple of towers in the city. He knows how to take advantage of a good market and he apparently sees that in Atlanta.

I live in Skyhouse, they sent it out with a notice about construction closures. Though it was supposed to be completed Friday, but I guess the storm delayed that

I, for one, am very excited about Related Group's proposal for 14th Street. Part of that development is where the 60,000 square feet flagship Whole Foods is slated to go.

With the revelation about the Ackerman site acquisition, I expect to see some exciting architecture from Related Group. One only has to peruse their Miami portfolio to see that Related has quite the experience with building stunning residential buildings. I am rooting that Mr. Perez gets a STRONG foothold in the intown Atlanta market.

I totally agree. I said on here several years ago that the architecture of the Related Group would be amazing for Midtown and Atlanta as a whole. I can't wait to see a rendering for its Midtown location. The Ackerman site is also exciting...that stretch on Peachtree looks really cool with Sovereign and the other towers. Being smack in the middle is going to take that stretch to another level. IMO, Cyan on Peachtree, though its not a super tall, is the best looking new tower that has been built.
