Even on a warm sunny day it could still be very cool in the shade under the huge overhangs. And they shade the vast majority of the seating areas.

They seem to love canopies in europe that cover the stands. North America is total opposite.

Same architect indeed. I looked at their website lately (Taillibert international) and I was surprised to see the Big O is actually on their logo.

Even though there have obviously been many issues with the Big O over the years, it has aged incredibly well (in terms of the design). It's a pretty rare thing for a futuristic design to still have a futuristic appeal 40 years later.

It looks fantastic, no argument there. A stunner on the outside, and I am a bit of an oddball in that I love the interior too... I think it's a great place to take in an event. But in terms of its lack of functionality and constant need for expensive fixes, it is really not much more than a good looking clunker. Considering that it will never host a full-time tenant again (the Als and Impact have their own stadiums, and a baseball team would inevitably get one), it's time to stop throwing good money after bad.

I love the Big O in terms of design (it's simply iconic), but I rather dislike it's location. The surrounding areas are either residential or industrial in nature, and rather lacking in terms of commercial amenities. Good metro access though.

I too love the design of Olympic Stadium from the outside. Isn't the proper thing to do at this point is to turn it into an aquarium or planetarium and transform it into an even bigger white elephant?

Speaking of white elephants, Olympic Stadium surely has got to be the archetype. It's too iconic to tear down, but it's expensive and no one actually needs or wants it. If only it was an eye sore.

I admire the pluck of early 1970s Quebec with its big-thinking civic projects like Mirabel Airport and Olympic Park, but man, what absolutely epic wastes of money they turned out to be. Kind of heartbreaking, really... this is not a country where the public treasury typically hands out blank cheques for massive projects, and those two rare examples turned out to be complete fiascos.

You're fundamentally right, but Mirabel was the feds BTW...

BMO looking good. Almost looks like that 2nd tier is floating as the covering of the suites matches the sky.

The construction of the roof next winter is going to be a sight to see.
