I was talking about racial stuff on this board, people here rarely care about most racial issues, with the supposed exception of PRC money in Vancouver.

It's the internet you can find hatred anywhere if you look for it.

Hating is part of life, will never understand this repressive taboo for something that is so universal.

Well it's actually really issue to understand, it's a common petty emotion and elistist's are disgusted to think that they too can be like the commoner, so they use self righteous condescension at other folks hatred as a way to be better than the other, while still coming out on top.

Were all taught to do this in western society it just kinda happens.

That wasn't directed at anyone here fyi.

People here are pretty good for the most part.

Even when I disagree with them for apparent shortcomings in knowledge.

Irregardless the market thing is way more complicated than "I want it"

It's a very basic ideal of democracy.

Laws should benefit the well being of the majority.

Vancouver does this only if you ignore the consequences of this short term money scheme.

I'm still dying to know if I've gained Cornholio's approval as a bonafide "contributor" to Canadian "society"...

an average amount want an active pounding nightlife and/or care about a large salary more than anything else., those go to toronto.

I'm not sure at all that the actual distribution of immigrants over the country matches what you're saying (i.e. that immigrants who want to be speaking English and don't favor a rural lifestyle or an actve pounding nightlife "prefer to go to Vancouver").

Do you have any source for that?

At first sight I'd expect Vancouver to be growing a lot more each year if it was the kind of immigrant magnet you think it is.

And quite frankly, looking at a few basic metrics (wages, job prospects, climate, property prices...) an immigrant shopping for a new home city would IMO be crazy to pick Vancouver unless they already have a super strongly established community there already (Chinese) which can jumpstart the integration process for the newcomers in many ways.

Of course if someone does extensive research, and wants a high salary, he or she would go Toronto.

That's assuming such person doesn't care for doing much outside of work.

One can't do much outside of work in Toronto? That's strange for such a large city.

It's also not the case, although the proportion of Torontonians who "live to work" is probably higher than elsewhere in the country.

Is that a joke? Having lived in Vancouver, Ottawa, Toronto, much of the States and Western Europe I can say categorically that there is no other city in Canada that has the social life options or vibrancy that Toronto has, none. I've begun wintering in Miami and I can tell you that the social scene there is no better than Toronto, probably equal depending on your flavour of social life (in my personal opinion, Toronto is more fun, though the weather there is better so gives more outdoor options). If someone can't have fun outside work in a developed westernized city region of 7 million then they're a socially inept loser, plainly speaking. There are millions of people in this city and region having a blast, I probably have more fun during just my lunch hour than people in most cities have in a week!

One can afford to live for work because fun is so accessible at all hours and on all days. I literally work, go out to have fun, eat, get back to work, eat go out to have fun, go home, gym, shower, read and wake up to do it all over again. It wouldn't be so easy if people, events and services were not so accessible.

Places like Ft McMurray and northern mining towns are probably even worse than Canada's financial work camp (a.k.a. Toronto)

Toronto is known as a place for people to go if they primarily care about a high salary over anything else, including going out after work or on the weekends.

The way I read him, if you want a high salary, you'll avoid Vancouver, but if on the other hand you like to work for peanuts (and you also like not being able to afford property), then Vancouver is the place of choice for people like you.

Are those 'options' all within a 60 minute transit ride if you place a pin on the map in the middle of Toronto?

Some people care about having a pile of money over other things.

Other than downtown stuff what other things do do to have fun?

You're not winning any one over on here if you are trying to convince us that there isn't much to do in Toronto.

I mean, sure, mistercorporate's recent posts about Toronto made me think of this song right away:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FaRw2JvC83U

(lots of smilies for mistercorporate)

And I am actually not the biggest believer in the idea that Toronto particularly stands out as a "fun city", but there are nonetheless oodles of things to do there by virtue of its sheer size.

He's certainly right that if you're bored there the problem is probably with you, not the city.

I'll try to use easier words. On most Canadian boards, Toronto is well known as the place to go if you place priority on a high paying salaried job over anything else.

Pretty much. World class theatre, music and night life. Some of Canada's best museums and galleries. A mind-boggling range of food options. Myriad events and festivals. A range of professional sports options (even if one of them is the Leafs!). Great shopping. Parks, hiking, lakefront.

I agree but that doesn't mean that's the only dimension to that city...
