1163 is a tragedy. How did we ever allow zoning to permit these wasteful parking decks?

I'm not a fan of parking decks either but to call this project a tragedy is a bit much I thank the deck looks great of what it is really doesn't look like a parking deck. This is one of my favorite project going on right now

I'm fully aware of that. It's no original SkyHouse but it's still a gigantic waste of prime real estate on a major intersection.

It probably has the highest density of any project under construction right now. Having over 400 residential units and that much retail on a single lot is far from wasteful.

Apparently people seem to think office space is in great need and we're going to see some grand office tower or the condo market is good enough to see some amazing and expensive condo building.

Our economy is doing good at the moment, but we're still not a NYC, SF, Seattle...

I agree, 8 levels of parking seems a bit excessive. Especially considering the average occupancy is likely to be less than half. Not everybody that is going to live there will need a parking space. Seriously, I wish Midtown Alliance would do a before/after study on parking occupancy at these developments and adjust the zoning accordingly. They are probably thinking to sell monthly parking to surrounding workers. I heard they did this at the other Skyhouse up the street.

If you want to see a tragedy, check out the eastern facade of the Emory Proton Treatment Center, fronting Juniper at Ponce. I'll never understand how that got through the DRC.

Is that Proton Center property part of Midtown or Downtown? I thought Midtown ended at Ponce.

Also, Square on Fifth has some new renders of amenity spaces and units, and they are also down to 10 units left in the building.

Funny! In the Square on Fifth's pool rendering above: The Peachtree Plaza, 191 Peachtree, and the Suntrust tower have all been moved north of 14th Street.

Georgia DOT looking to ways to reduce congestion on the Connector:

Here's a thought: encourage public transportation use, toll the hell out of getting inside ATL, or take lanes OUT (if we're feeling radical). Adding lanes, tunnels, or another highway on top of the connector (seriously?) are the stupidest ideas I've ever heard to reduce congestion. Studies have shown time and time again that adding capacity to roads leads to greatly increased traffic in the long-term.

this happens all the time in renderings like this. it's so careless. getting the skyline right is NOT difficult.

Putting a 10k SqFt with 8 stories of detached residential parking and a tennis court on one of the highest profile intersections in the city constitutes high density?

All of that could have been put into a single tower at 13th and W Peachtree yet the context of being in the sprawl belt makes this garbage proposal seem like it's far from wasteful.

I'm absolutely glad that Starbucks hasn't been absorbed in Atlanta's Novare tower #28. Hopefully down the line, someone will address that lot with the respect it deserves rather a glorified parking deck.

I'll agree that for Novare's garbage output this is a moderately decent parking deck but are we really justifying this disjointed Atlantic tower by context? It's 2015, we don't need dressed up parking decks lining our marquee roads for the unforeseeable future.

Another gigantic waste of prime real estate. The Cousins proposal with the Target would have made for a much more utilized parcel.

Man.... A Target would have been great there. Knowing that makes the current development even more depressing. It's cool that we are gaining a rare, world class facility in Midtown, but it does feel like a waste of prime real estate.

Correct me if I'm wrong, the development seems as though it's nearing completion, but it doesn't appear that they are going all the way up to Peachtree Street. Wasn't there an additional tower to be incorporated in a second phase of this strategy?

Are their comments online somewhere?

They may have opposed it but been overridden by the planning department.

There's some sort of tower option that may go up Peachtree. Makes a lot more sense to have put the Proton Therapy facility directly on the Crawford Long campus.

A subjective question for sure. All I said is that it's probably the highest density of anything being built right now. It's certainly high for that side of Midtown where there's a plethora of blight and vacant lots. I think you're dramatically over-valuing that intersection and Atlanta in general.
