Naru, Meiji, Wasabi and Wakoya are all within 5 blocks of each other in the village.

Not to mention the several sushi restaurants down Corydon.

Has anyone checked out Beet Happening yet? It looks really good. Nice to see the huge improvements on that stretch of Notre Dame too.

Edit: from what I've read the place is a zoo. Sounds like there's some pent-up demand in the area for good places to eat. Not that surprising, really. It's becoming a more desirable/less sketchy area to live, and that gets the HSC people out of their fortress.

The Beet Happening signs were up in the windows for so long that I actually thought it went under long ago without opening. Good for them... I'd like to check it out.

The West End is probably the best restaurant area in the city after downtown, but the "non-ethnic" choices are somewhat limited. Good to have another option.

Exactly. We are talking sushi restaurants not transit stops. There doesn't need to be one every 500 ft.

That's the problem! I don't have one a pleasant walk away. Walking up Osborne Street is not that pleasant once you get past the Legion, and Confusion Corner... yech.

Not every 500 ft., just one in the neighbourhood. I'd happily trade Corydon one of their sushi joints for one of our pizza or Chinese places. Hell, we can even do a 2-for-1, they can have the Clubhouse Pizza and Jade Inn Chinese that occupy the same building

Since that Clubhouse Pizza is already 3-for-1, it's basically a 4-for-1 trade. What a steal!

+1 to Riverman's recommendation of Sherbrook Street Deli. Best deli I've been to since Caplansky's in Toronto, and I think Sherbrook Street's pickled tongue was actually better.

Yup. I don't really see it lasting too long, but I hope it does.

They were out of 2 of the 4 sandwiches on the menu and had no side dishes. I had the salami, it was pretty good, but it was just a salami sandwich on regular bread.

They're open for breakfast and lunch, and said they want to add dinner in the summer (no patio though) and are waiting approval from the MLLCLCLCM/LGA?... Don't really see it being a big drinking spot like they want though.

It's tough being that far off the beaten path and relying solely on RRC, City Hall, and soon-to-be-gone PSB.

For what it's worth City Place lost another unit in the food court. Mrs. Vanelli's pizza is gone and I wonder how long its going to take to replace that unit.

Looks reasonably interesting to me... I could see it doing fairly well, although that's now two hipster artisanal sandwich shops a block apart. I don't think the Exchange can sustain many more than that!

True.

Personal aside but I just cant get behind the guys at King/Bannatyne. I know not every restaurant is truly original, but these guys were lazy and ripped the concept totally.

I see activity in the empty space in the strip mall between Burrito Splendido and Popeye's supplements at 3380 Portage Avenue. Anyone know what is going in there?

Is there a website I can go to that lists all these restaurants in the exchange/downtown? I guess Urban Spoon, but not sure if it would be up to date with all these new spots. Seems there's a lot of places I need to get to!
