You also notice it in those real estate shows. People have a list of wants but don't have the money to pay for it. Who's fault is it? The designer or real estate agent!!! It couldn't possibly be because they don't have enough money. The entertainment value in those shows is often seeing how out to lunch the clients are.

You might be right. I always just figured it was part of the general "slobification" of air travel. Imagine bare feet on a plane! Gross!

Dunno, I just don't find the "show off" theory very plausible. I mean, unless they were going to be greeted by friends or family upon their arrival like the olden days, why would anyone plan their outfit based on a bunch of strangers in an airport terminal they're just briefly passing through. What it comes down to is that they're going to be inside for many hours on flight, in airport, and then in a heated vehicle, and air travel is safe and routine enough that people don't generally consider the possibility of being forced outside. I mean, how often are people really in a plane crash?

Just like if you see someone in a shopping mall walking around not dressed for outdoors. Are they really intentionally showing off the fact that they didn't have to walk or wait at a bus stop? And is it really reasonable to expect people to dress for the possibility of a fire or bomb threat evacuation?

This winter, there have surely been a lot of people arriving at YYT in shots and sandals who had to immediately shovel their driveways to get into their homes.

I always dress as well as I ever do flying. I can always tell which seating area is for a flight to MTL because they look so well-dressed. Gotta represent the Rock... even though we're generally off in a wing of the terminal with flights to Thompson and Iqaluit.

This is absolutely perfect I cant possibly beat this but here's my simple version:

Realtor: "Alright so here we are in your preferred neighbourhood. How much do you think the average price for these homes are?"

Husband: "Im gonna say, $250 - 260000 dollars"
Wife: "275"

Realtor: "Actually these houses start at 1.6 Million dollars."

Husband: "oh"

I prefer to fly naked. That way I dont overheat and I can show off when I disembark from the plane. You wouldnt believe the attention you get from complete strangers. lol

On the other hand the show loves to do that, even to people who are not idiots with regards to real estate.

It's a combination of both things. Slobs + Look at me: I just came back from the Caribbean!

At the theatre it's just 'slobification' as you call it. A mildly uncomfortable game plays out. Those in track pants stare at the well dressed like an alien life form never encountered before. The well dressed blur their eyes pretending not to see the track pant crowd.

Saskatoon's John G Diefenbaker International airport (YXE) grew by 6.9% last year to serve almost 1.5 million passengers, about same number of passengers as Quebec City's Jean Lesage airport..
Usually travellers don't make connections at YXE for flights to destinations but several Alberta friends have connected/transited through Saskatoon for non-stop flights to Vegas.

A similar event occurred in Regina in May of '83 when an AC DC-9 slid off the runway during an intense freak snowstorm. No serious injuries. The captain was subsequently fired.

Nice addition. YXE keeps going through expansions every couple of years. The fireplace is a nice touch.

When I lived there, I traveled quite a bit. There has always a small number of connecting passengers coming from Winnipeg, Calgary and Edmonton. I think it is mostly people being rebooked and they ended having extra seats through Saskatoon.

They need to do a bit of expansion on the car rental counter. I know a number of people who have made the mistake of renting from Hertz to discover they don't have a counter in the airport.

YYC had its first month of negative growth in years for February, at -0.4%. Still at 15.3 million for the 12-month period ending February 28 though, so not too bad.

CanJet Airlines to lay off most of its staff, as European routes dropped

Halifax-based charter airline will examine all options, including return to scheduled flights

CanJet Airlines will lay off 47 pilots and 68 permanent and seasonal flight attendants by May, after canceling its European routes, CBC News has learned.

The cuts total more than 70 per cent of the charter airline's flying staff. CanJet currently employs about 62 pilots and 100 flight attendants.

The airline has ceased its Europe operations, because the venture "is simply not profitable," company president Stephen Rowe said in an email to CBC News

"It is disappointing we have to realign our employee group today to a much smaller group," he said.

CanJet, a subsidiary of Halifax-based IMP Group, launched its own vacation package deals last year. It also provides charter flights on behalf of Transat Holidays, but that partnership will soon come to an end, resulting in more lost business.

Rowe said the company is exploring its options and that "everything is on the table," including possibly adding scheduled flights in Canada and internationally.

Constant layoffs

CanJet has been plagued over the past few years by shrinking business and layoffs.

This past winter, it cancelled 40 per cent of its planned flights and laid off 21 pilots. Rowe said the company had to make the cuts because it overestimated sales for its first winter season offering vacation packages.

The union representing the airline's pilots is suggesting CanJet Vacations could also be doomed.

In a memo to members obtained by CBC News, the Air Line Pilots Association​ wrote: "We have been advised that the fate of CanJet Vacations is not entirely clear, however, from our perspective it is. It appears that the desire to continue past this summer has unfortunately been lost after only nine months of selling."

But Rowe maintained that CanJet Vacations could live on, "as we had as we had great support during our first year of operation." But he also admitted that "pricing in this business segment is a challenge."

Feelings of deception

The union memo also criticized how CanJet is managing the cuts.

"It is unfortunate that we have been put in this situation," the memo said, adding that the union shares members' "feelings of being deceived and disrespected.
