The roof of the new part is one level higher anyway. If I'm not mistaken the rooftop garden was part of an agreement with the original Rideau Centre as it partly sits on public land. In the same way, people are allowed to walk through the mall after hours to catch buses on either side.

YES... Real bricks from the 1916 addition are going back to recreate the 1906 facade... The 1906 bricks were trashed by Ogilvy's in the mid 1940s...

As for rooftop accessibility, I dont recall seeing it in any of the documents I have seen so far. I as well as many others here would agree that as full-scale remodel and expansion of the rooftop gardens would have been a good move. Heck, with the potential up there for creating a beautiful park it is dissappointing they arent! Green roofs save money! lol

Still don't understand why they couldn't have preserved and incorporated the original structure, they did the same with the Transportation building in the early 80s.

Roof terrace
Silvia Logan
March 29 2015
As I looked at photos and watched an you tube video, I did see that the renovated Rideau Centre is supposed to have a roof terrace. However, I do not know what will be there. I doubt that it will be a movie theatre with the Lansdowne park cinemas not far off. We will have to wait and see, once the expansion is completely finished. I always check the open soon under redevelopment. I think that Simon's is supposed to go up four floors, but I am not sure. Do you live close to the Rideau Centre?

It's a skylight.

And yes, Simons will take 3 or 4 floors on the Ogilvy corner.

So far, the only addition to the roof top terrace that is confirmed is the Nordstom Restaurant's patio. No news on what will happen with the theatre space.

Worth noting that the terrace will not be expanded on the side of the addition as it is one floor higher than the old Rideau Centre.

I do remember one of you posted photos of the construction inside the expansion. The circular floors with the escalators dies look exactly what Simon's is going to look like.

Has there been any talk about whats going in the new space besides Simons? Is that Louis Vuitton in the render just a concept?

By the look of that triangular metal structure in the middle, it looks like those escalators and the elevator up to the old cinemas will get better use getting up into the new 4th level. I wonder if that concrete pad next to it is another space for another restaurant patio. It's good to see that rooftop garden getting more visibility, the remoteness made it feel really sketchy.

I am sure some new retails shops might go in on the 4th level beside the Simon's store. Maybe the elephant pub which closed across from Starbuck's could go on the top level. It would be great because in the summer people can drink and eat outside. You have a great view of the Parliament buildings.

New store shots from the Rideau Centre twitter account. Loving the new store designs. The ones below, Birks, etc. Can't wait to see Michael Kors, Tiffanys, Kate Spade and Stuart Weitzman.

On a side note, there are some large spaces on the third floor that are vacant. The former Grand & Toy, the recently vacated Club Monaco, and Mexx. That's a lot of space. Any predictions on who will fill those spaces? Who would be on your wish list?

A&F or Hollister would make sense to fill some of this empty space, though I'm guessing they'll move into the new section.

Months ago Strellson was supposedly looking for retail space in Ottawa in a high-traffic zone. I'd be willing to bet if they haven't found a spot elsewhere, Rideau Centre will get a location. I'm also thinking a Ted Baker may pop up in the mall eventually. I'll take it with a grain of salt since it could be creative license, but the video fly-through of the mall concept shows a store roughly across from the Apple Store (and what looks to be a relocated Le Chateau) called "Ned Barker" (see the 1:35 mark in the video):

Video Link

I think there was also rumours of a Zara Home moving in as well...

I watched that video many times and many of the shops there do not seem to be in the Rideau Centre except for Nordstrom and Simon's. As I clicked under the redevelopment button under opening soon, they said that the Zara is going to be opened in the expansion in August of 2016. As I looked in the expansion in the video, I saw an Azra, Ted's restaurant and a M&H. Whether these shops will be included in the expansion or not, I will have to wait and see until the expansion is completely finished. Some of the restaurants which I saw in the food court in the video are completely different than the ones which we have in the new food court. They have a Smoke Burger, A&W, KFC, Trattoria Tevore, Thai Express, Shanghai Express, a Creperie, and a Greek on Wheels. They have a Purdy's chocolate store. I saw that the Club Monaco just opened today. I checked in the redevelopment button under Open Now. M

Most of the names in the video are fake. They haven't confirmed all the new tenants yet, so they put a bunch of fake names just to add "something" to the marquees. This was done before the food court was done, so they just put random names, and only put the "real names" of things that are confirmed like Nordstrom and Simons and stuff like that. M&H is H&M, a teen clothing store which is strongly rumoured to take up the space where Shoppers Drug Mart is now. Azra is Zara which will also be moving I believe. There have been new sketches also done since this video was done. It was just another step in the drafting process! Keep checking your list on the website. That will be your best bet. There is nothing to give away in this dated video

The whole abercrombie and fitch (A&F & Hollister) brand is in the toilet. They are closing stores down not opening new ones.

I bought three summer vests last year in Ambercrombie & Fitch at a mall in Atlanta, Georgia. To me, the stuff which I bought seemed to be good quality. I do not know much about the shop at all.
