Coquitlam Centre as well.. there's no way they'll be keeping that FS open considering that they have the larger Best Buy store across the street.

Seemed inevitable, Best Buy has no reason to operate two very similar banners in a rapidly shrinking industry. Logically they would maintain the better known banner while consolidated.

Locations like Lansdowne made no sense, both banners were basically beside each other.

On the North Shore my guess is that Park Royal will remain and convert to Best Buy, Marine Dr. will close. In Vancouver, Robson & Granville will remain, Broadway is questionable as the Cambie Best Buy is relatively close.

Metrotown is going to be in flux for awhile, what with Target closing (who knows what's going to happen to that space), Sears selling and leasing their location (so I wouldn't bet that's going to be redeveloped soon), Station Square being a construction zone until 2018 - 2020, and now Future Shop closing. I suppose that'll open up a couple spots with exterior entrances so a flagship store could move in.

all future shops have closed there are none left, the website is gone redirecting people to best buy.ca

media reports are conflicting, CBC reports some stores are closing, other sources say ALL stores are closing with some converting to best buy

i bet they will move best buy to the mall since it gets more foot traffic and looky loos who turn into customers

and something like marshalls could take over the best buy spot since people seek those places out moreso

Future Shop was always my fav store.

I used to go buy a CD at the park royal one every week before mp3 players, and browsed the video games before digital downloads, and marvelled at the cool TVs until I could finally afford one myself (65" Samsung h7150). Best Buy was never the same, especially wince it was a 30 min drive instead of 5.

Not surprised they're closing the North Van one, I drove right past it myself unless I wanted to avoid Xmas crowds, but it may be the only retail store I'll mourn.

FS as a brand is gone, any stores not closing will be converted to BB.

Most of what I'm hearing today is :

-all Future Shop stores closed today

-about half will re-open in about a week as Best Buy

-shops within a close distance of an existing Best Buy or Future Shop will not re-open

-Future Shop as a brand/banner will not return, shops re-opening will only be bannered as Best Buy

Wikipedia already has Future Shop in the past tense 'was'

Does anyone think that we may see London Drugs move into the lower half of the ex-Target in Metrotown or the was-to-be Future Shop in Station Square? They have that ancient store blocks away and I could see them relocating like they did from a similar old store into Coquitlam Centre.

London Drugs/Shoppers and other prescription-based stores are one of the few big box stores with some protection against Amazon. At Lynn Valley Centre they're giving Save On Foods the former Zellers space (Target didn't want it), and Shoppers is moving into the much larger former Save On space.

Two major department stores are in the running to take the entire Metrotown Target space.

Possibly Vancity Buzz? We've never published a list, though we can certainly confirm much of what's been listed above by whiteshadow. Plenty of retail space is still available for interested retailers.

Gunning for Simons, my guess is that they have at least 2 - 3 planned for Metro Vancouver. Edmonton is already getting their second.

Can't see London Drugs going into Station Sq as Rexall is going in there.

The old one still gets decent amount of foot traffic, but it is rather outdated

Surrey Central being hit hard, loses Futureshop and Target

This also makes it a lot easier for Landsdown to end up closing shop and just get redeveloped

The ting I hate about Shoppers is I find most of them severely understaffed. I'm not going to wait in lien just cuz the franchisee is too cheap to pay an extra cashier.
