Looks like Cousins Properties is not going to develop those buildings over on Loop 360 & Lost Creek. It says a local developer is working on a new proposal. We don't have a lot of local developers that could take that on successfully. Endeavor, Riverside Resources, Cielo Partners, CapRidge (Tom Stacy) come to mind.

Austin American Statesman
Marshall contract with developer expires
http://www.statesman.com/news/news/local/marshall-contract-with-developer-expires/nkZnd/

Quote:
The Marshall tract contract has expired with a potential developer who planned to build an office complex there, according to the owner. Owner Dan Marshall declined to say anything else about the contract, but Lost Creek neighbor and blogger Paul Schumann, who has been communicating with Marshall, said another group is putting together a proposal for a different office building.

That means it’s unlikely to see Atlanta-based Cousins Property’s plan to build one seven-story office building nearest to Loop 360 and one five-story office building on the southern edge of the property come to fruition. Cousins Property did not return calls for comment. This group, which Schumann did not name, is local, which Schumann cautiously thinks is a good thing, he said.
Here's a link to Schumann's blog: http://marshalltract.blogspot.com/

Good. Maybe they'll continue their focus on downtown.

Site plan for Alexan East 6th Street. It's 5 floors and 54 feet.

Kevin, can you do a little interpreting, such as how much ground-level retail and/or office space, how many units, and any other interesting details? It's pretty interesting to see that cluster of density develop on the east side. I just hope it will foster a real neighborhood feel with ample street life, rather than being an apartment jungle like West Campus.

On page 8 it does show street level retail spaces. Along East 6th, there are two retail spaces in the middle. The sales office is on one end and there's a restaurant space on the other end. There's no retail along Hildalgo Street since there's where the garage space butts up to.

There are still a lot of available lots for fresh build or re-build in West Campus that can correct the apartment jungle feel over time, though I agree with the current assessment for the most part. I suspect that the East Side, not being entirely students who are by definition temporary residents, will be different, especially with the independent/small business spirit of that area.

What part of MLK is that? I live near MLK and Airport and never noticed all those tree covered hills before.

That MLK Station project is going to be HUGE for east Austin if it includes the addition of a line of hills in the background. But they need to hire a better hill designer who doesn't cut corners --- they cloned one of them.

But seriously, that looks like a sweet project for that location, MLK on the west side of the tracks. I'd live there in a heartbeat if I could afford it.

I don't recall seeing this project posted yet. But it's another West Campus apartment building and is called The Corner. The permit filing is dated 03/03/15 and has an attachment with some info:

The developers of the proposed re-development of the RBJ Center site got their request for mixed use zoning approved. All systems are go for now:

This rendering was only one of the (three?) concepts proposed way back when:

This is under construction. They have started moving dirt around. I see it every day on the train. Its at the MLK MetroRail station. The building lower left is up against the tracks. Then Alexander Ave which is the street from right to left. MLK is the main front street with most of the cars on it. The other upper entrance is just a private street entrance into the development.

It's crazy to think it's still possible to find a lawn in West Campus. It's one of the densest most urban hoods in Austin. Whenever I go up there to take pics from the big garages, the place definitely has its own unique feel that is somewhat different from the rest of Austin.

That place actually looks like an old motel.

The Census Bureau just released the 2014 Metro estimates. Austin was the fastest growing large city and third overall behind The Villages and Myrtle Beach:

http://kimt.com/2015/03/26/census-bureau-releases-2014-population-estimates/

From the article:

The Austin, Texas MSA ranked third fastest at a 3.2 percent population change between 2013 and 2014. The metro area, which includes the Texas capitol and Round Rock, the home of Dell Computers, added an estimated 57,500 people for a total estimated population of 1,943,299.
