Hm, where did you read about a Stanley Park streetcar? I thought the plan was to run skytrain down Georgia and over the First Narrows bridge?

No hidden meaning. Its just interesting to see the types of buildings you're looking at. It seems like a view is very important and that is quite a nice one. The building itself is kind of anonymous., I can't even recall when it went up.

Palais Georgia has been built in 1990. You could definitely see building's age from the common areas, but the suite was completely re-done. Yeah, view is a big deal in a city with great views, but for the time being we are seeing various places to setup some guidelines for what we want.

The downside of this building is the busy intersection. There is always lots of cars in there, so the balcony could really not be enjoyed. I don't think we will end up here.

Correct.
It would be on Cordova St., then turn up to Georgia St. at Bayshore Gardens.
If you go to the 1575 West Georgia thread, I think the site plan also shows a corner statutory right-of-way for the streetcar.

I wonder if any of the former CIBC banks in the mid-century style are being preserved anywhere.

CIBC banks of that era seemed to have a very characteristic look about them - - i.e. tall windows and entrances with bold frames.

i.e. SW corner of Broadway & Main; NE corner of Commercial & East 1st Ave.

What's the building beside this? Is it part of this project? What was there that had all those lights?

The only building beside this redevelopment is to the west with the curved facade overlooking Hastings Street (312/316 W. Hastings). It's not being torn down and can be seen in the rendering that Prometheus posted above.

As for lights, I'm never in this area at night so I don't know. There was Northern Lights Seeds & Lounge that was next door at 312 W. Hastings. It can be seen in this Google street view:

Thx! Yea that's the building I'm talking about the one with the curved front and I know it's the only building by the site. Hmm Ive always remembered it to be empty. I've never seen it lit up before it's probably been decades since it was lit up Looks really old maybe from the 70s?

Here's a pic from May 1974. I'll bet the curved facade covered up or replaced an art deco facade based on the parts that are left to the side of the curved thing.

Oh yes that curved thing covers up something much older that's for sure!

(I love how you can see the same tree. Starting out as a little baby compared to now all grown up)

It's kind of like that old curvature on the ridge theatre. The developer could re-name this work of art "THE CURVATURE" haven't seen that name used before! I could see the condo brochures now! oops too bad it's not a condo.

Before the bank building that is being demolished, there stood an older, grander structure. I really wish it was the one still standing. The new building is not befitting of an old civic square surrounded by so much consequential, historic, urban architecture:

It really makes sense for a public square to be surrounded by iconic buildings of that era. What the heck were they thinking when they demolished that grand tall structure and replaced it with an ugly featureless short bank building? Was that an earlier version of the viewcone at work? This is unforgiving unless a fire actually wiped out the whole structure, but still.....

Personally, I feel that the new building to be built does not reflect the heritage of that area, but the demolition of this old bank building sure goes fast compared to what is happening/happened at Tate, Vancouver House and the Whale building.
