^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I think the building in Santiago would do very well in Vancouver: that or something very similar.
Burrard and Georgia springs to mind.

jun aoki's Louis Vuitton store in #tokyo features patterned façades:

positioned at the former entrance to the city, the design references the history of the region and its close association with the #artdeco movement. #architecture

I wonder if they have viewcone bylaws to protect those 'oh- so-beautiful' views of the snow-capped mountains. Vancouver is essentially handicapped to ever have such awesome buildings.

New police headquarters in Charleroi, Belgium. Some high-quality construction that could bring some vibrance to Vancouver cityscape as well.

Arrow I know this is nothing new, but I think it's an important point of reference

This planned-but-never-executed building by I.M. Pei IMO deserves to be reincarnated, most probably along West Georgia; (?) possibly West Hastings (?)
Nevertheless, it is too fine a design to let go of IMO, and I think it deserves to go somewhere.

I'm not talking about the buildings around it (although go ok in the render) but this is too beautiful and classic not see daylight.

I'm not sure how that building is classic? - I mean the TD Tower built in its place is hideous in itself, but a tower with no windows on at least a portion of one side? - For those that have been in the Mac Blo building on W. Georgia, or worked in that building it is probably one of the worst buildings in the city to have an office space in because of the low ceilings and inset windows.

Any design needs to balance exterior esthetics along with interior functionality and work/livability.

they should do this wih some of the empty parkades in the west end, my friend lives in a 4 storey just off davie street with parking at street level underneath part of the building and its empty cause most of the tenants don't have cars or they park on the street cause its cheaper to get a permit than a spot.

You can thank Mr. Erickson for that.

I guess this could also be an inspiration for Vancouver. An innovative artificial skylight that will make it possible to build earthscrapers in cities where there are viewcones.

In a more near-term future this kind of technology could be great improvement to living standards everywhere!

I wish this were 'live' (I have seasonal depression and light sensitivity - yay me) and would love it in my living room. Sadly there's only two or three of these in existence and they aren't going to be making a lot of them anytime soon. Until that changes the only places I can imagine them in are luxury buildings that are under construction (I can't remember where but I read that it needs 1m of ceiling space and costs tens of thousands of Euros).

In the meantime we can dream about this http://sunnlight.com/

I've always thought downtown Vancouver could use a public winter artificial light space, for the dark winter months, SAD sufferers could go there for a dose of daylight. Like the sunken part of Robson Square, imagine it being lit up, going on lunch to a bright, natural feeling environment. Great for public health while embracing our climate.

Architect of Vancouver House, Bjarke Ingels was hired by Google to design a friendly, walkable, lively, community style campus.
http://googleblog.blogspot.ca/2015/02/rethinking-office-space.html

Still riding hot on the success of his Vancouver association , New York City came knocking for a Vancouver seawall of their own.
http://www.theguardian.com/cities/2015/m...-york-dryline-park-flood-hurricane-sandy

It's a shame the current city council blocked a true extension/completion of the seawall out to UBC and instead chose to do the Point Grey Rd park/bike lane option.

There's a group of people who are trying to get past the question of which came first, the chicken or the egg. Call it placemaking, build it and they will come. Lately and locally it's been in the form of a Ferris Wheel or substituting LRT for a bus.

Building a Tallest Tower has fallen out of favour after many cities or countries built their own just for the attention, especially since the money Canada spent to build the CN Tower or Dubai/UAE on the Burj just made it too expensive to be relevant.

Revolving restaurants, Gondolas, Ferris Wheels. It's easy to stand out, when the main function is a tourist trap observation point.

This Helix Podtower is the obvious next step.
