I personally don't like the grates, in a few years when the trees get bigger the roots start to lift those grates, just a nuisance and a tripping hazard. I'm glad they got them out of Richard's Street, but the rubber sidewalks on Richards are great, too bad they didn't do that for Telus as well.

It looks like they've planted the trees lower than the sidewalk (which is a bit odd since it becomes a well for winter salt water)
and the concentric circles on the grates are meant to be cut back to make the opening bigger as the tree grows.

This just simply doesn't happen in other big cities. They go the extra mile and properly pave their sidewalks with cement. I've never seen another city so hell bent on using asphalt for sidewalks as Vancouver. It looks atrocious

Regarding the green box
Yea what a joke. It's very narrow and awkward. It's so bizarre that clearly it must be temporary. Just like the stairs. I mean the city wouldn't do something so stupid and allow this, right?? There was another one of these I think on thurlow and Melville area recently put in, it wasn't as awkward

Regarding the condition of the sidewalk, I've seen many big cities with 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 sidewalks and the asphalt is most likely temporary

They already did, like the viewcones.

Blocking sidewalks seems to be the rage these days. Maybe they want sidewalk space to be more intimate, complete with "human scale" feel to it.

The attention to detail, the quality of materials and the execution, overall, is generally outstanding on this building and a far cry from the re-clad one block west! I believe the excellence going into Telus Garden is really making Cheng's work look rather second-rate.

Given the delays piling up on this project and the friction we're hearing about now between Telus and Westbank, I'm not sure that words like outstanding and excellence are heard much at their construction meetings.

At the highest levels, I'm being told. This is second-hand from a normally reliable source, I should add. Who knows, it could be all sunshine and bunnies but I've seen glaciers recede faster than the pace of the green roof and ground level space.

Just wait until they have to maintain all the eco-features and lighting, etc.
The LED light feature on the William Farrell Building (now sold to Avigilon (sp?) fell into disrepair within a year.

PS - the LEDs under the Seymour St. overhang has been turned on at night for about a week now - same blue as the Richards St. side.

I walk by the Georgia side of the office tower almost everyday and I can't say I've seen much getting done lately. Those last shots by officedweller sure show how much work remains to be done on the arches.

Here's a shot of the condo tower as seen today from the 900 block of Homer Street. I'm thinking they might raise the north crane soon.

The LEDs can display a ton of colours, not just the blue. I saw them looking like a game of tetris the other day. Should allow them to do some cool things if they want.

There are always a lot of workers on site though, it's just finicky finishing work. They only need to complete the lobby though, they can finish the exterior of the canopy during occupancy.
