Sorry for the naive question - I have no architecture background, but what's up with all the triangles? And why are they 'detached' from the main facade of the building in such an exaggerated way? It just looks so awkward. I find that even the most plain early twentieth century row houses look better than this.

Seems like an effort to make them look less urban, i.e. not flat-roofed the way you would expect a Philadelphia rowhouse to look.

So even though you're buying a rowhouse with urban characteristics, the goal is to make it look like you are buying a little country house on a bucolic patch of grass with nobody around.

At least the little portico gives a bit of cover over the door. To be perfectly honest, I wouldn't even mind housing developments of this sort if municipal zoning were such that some of the end units were pubs or cafes or convenience stores, or daycares or SOMETHING. It's the complete lack of amenties other than green space (if you're lucky) that bothers me.
