Urgh... what happened to the reflecting glass and the thin frames? Seems like it's mostly like siding... Reminds me of Cathedral Hill, and not in a good way

Maybe this is a dumb question, but is a developer allowed to just change the actual design from what is shown in renderings at will?

This tower looks like absolute 🞵🞵🞵🞵 and in such a prominently visible location at that.

Renderings are just for illustration (i.e. selling people on the project) and have no legal status

Elevations and materials are regulated through the site plan control process.

The site plan application was panned by the UDRP in Fall 2013

The zoning also went to the OMB in Fall 2013 with a decision in January 2014 with the board determining the issues raised were more appropriate for the site plan process http://www.omb.gov.on.ca/e-decisions_old/pl130585-jan-15-2014-1.pdf

The application seems to have been approved sometime Spring 2014, but it's no longer on the City's site, and the archive on Ottwatch doesn't have 2014 documents.

So it's definitely possible the design/materials changed between Fall 2013 and Spring 2014. If you check the elevations there are labels where they show what materials are proposed.

Nope, no yard sale needed. Completely premeditated bait & switch by Claridge - can't say I'm surprised. The silver siding being installed was actually bought and used on three different development projects in the last year by Claridge; including, Tribeca, Fusion, and now the Hotel project.

When will it end, make the stop!

Walked by this building again last night. It's a real shame. This looks like Claridge's cheapest material application yet.

I walked past the site this afternoon and confirm that the cladding is exceptionally ugly. It looks like dull primer paint and already show some water staining. The fit and finish looks really crude, too. The grey panels on the side that look like opaqued-out windows are terrible

I'm thinking that the narrow strip of dark grey below the thicker one has got to be a mistake, especially because the lighter corner piece goes past it. The building could have looked batter with a bit of surface articulation, it looks like someone took an iron to what should have been 3 dimensional details.

I seriously wonder if Andaz/Hyatt realized how cheap Claridge would do this. Their own press releases show the fancy white/glass renders.

Loved how the Union du Canada building was built like a tank, and had the unique window design.

^ Meh, it was a concrete eyesore in my opinion. Not that this hotel is any improvement.
