Well, maybe. A lot of people may not think about it all, particularly with a big prominent retail entrance nearby, the Highland Building entrance nearby, and so on. In fact, it probably won't be obvious that is the main residential entrance unless you are familiar with the entire building.

So I'd think this really isn't going to be a common issue with most of the public just walking around. But it might be more of an issue with some particularly sensitive community advocates, local NIMBYs, and the like.

Oh, I doubt it. As long as they are emptied regularly, and kept closed and in good repair, modern dumpsters are not very smelly to begin with. Moreover, as you can see in the renderings, there is open space above them on The Penn side, and on The Highland side that should be at, or at least near, where The Highland ends and the parking garage begins, which is a lower and more open structure.

So wind or not, I doubt it will be a problem.

I would love to have dumpsters near the entrance of my apartment. There are probably many good things to find in them. Maybe even some stuff discarded from the Dollar Store.

If you are really being bothered by the smell from a nearby dumpster, bleach will usually do the trick. Which you can get for cheap at the dollar store!

I love that we've now come full circle, bringing dollar stores and dumpsters together in conversation... because deep down we know there is no difference between the two anyway.

maybe the techies at alpha lab can rig up a conveyor belt to move the junk (and the bleach) from the dollar tree directly to the dumpsters - now that would be cool

From where I sit you are missing a distinction in the front door discussion. The trend for upper level RESIDENTIAL has for years been to more nondescript entry. Why? Probably several reasons, one key one being that few want to pay rent for a useless lobby type space. In other words, there is more money to be made in ground level retail and giving them the prominent doorway placements vs a ground floor main lobby for an apartment building. It may not please old school purists but it seems to please everyone else including tenants which is the most important.

On the other hand, upper level COMMERCIAL/OFFICE space typically is still built with the type of main entrance being whined about.
