You are right sir. I know I was thinking "V" when I typed it. Do you think I could have been having a stroke?

Demolition at our presentation centre is almost 90% complete! Look out for signage going up soon. #Winnipeg
Do we know where this centre is being built?

It has been fun, I am enjoying my short time back.

Although if the location is 283 Garry st. and a Reno... Where would it be located in this google photo? the Old Fame club? which is listed as 279 Garry St..hmmmm..

Didn't the FreeP run a story about a proposal for a multi-use tower at Fame a while back?

Yeah, it's that building which is basically on the proposed site.

Edit: Wait, I thought it was the building on the west side of Garry, but address is on the east side I guess. Which is Fame.

Fame nighclub is still in operation. It's the same building but a separate unit with its own entrance further south.

ya, everyone always thinks fame is shut down due to the huge for lease sign stuck on the building.. if I was the fame management, I think id ask for a better placement of the sign or some kind of re-wording of the sign like, "top floor space FOR LEASE" etc.

FWIW I walked by the building in question during the lunch hour and the entrance in question (283 Garry) is now covered by a plywood board. So does look like work may have indeed started?

For lease sign is still up.

Edit: this picture is up on the lease listing for the site.

Bit off topic Jeff but I did a few gigs in that club a while back..Is it still a sketchy location, ie: clientele or is it a thriving vibrant hub of urban activity?

If not, maybe we should get CV to buy it and clean up downtown?

Yeah, I posted that listing at the thread start, I always assumed it would be the location if they didn't decided to build new..

Back when it was Sonar? That place was a toilet. They shot dirty pornos in their back rooms.

It's a fairly pedestrian gay club now. I worked on a reno there last winter. It turned out pretty nice but they put goofy picture of famous lgbt people on the bars, so you get the distinct pleasure of seeing George Takei, or Ellen, or Anderson Cooper when you order a drink.

Does anyone know what this building was originally? There are no windows on the Garry facade...

Was it a racket club or is that the building on the next block?

Army/Navy/Air Force Veterans Hall, which it was until about a decade or so ago.

The taller portion is the original, the shorter part was added on likely sometime in the 70s.

Here's an old photo from the Winnipeg Building Index:
