I don't despise non boxes. I just think that this is disjointed and ugly.

I can't believe Regis Labeaume looks at this and actually believes it's a good-looking building... Very disappointed.

I don't really like it. It's different, I'll give it that, but I don't like buildings that are different only for the sake of being different.

Wow, up close looks even worse. The black roof on the peel portion looks especially bad. From the ground no one will see it at least. My other problem with this design that stands out from this view is the black post on the corner that turns into the spire. It makes it look utilitarian and contributes to the toothpick look. If it looks this raw in the rendering I can only imagine in real life how it will turn out. Looks like something conceived by a welder.

Edit: the more I look at it the more dated the spire and crown look.

So if this render is the real deal how do they propose those top floors on the sections that split apart should be constructed? The windows go right to the roof. Seriously it looks like some kid with sketch up did this. I was expecting something more in QC as the majority of proposals in that city are first rate. My last post on this building for a while I promise.

I always thought of Quebec City as an elegant place, what's with the broken umbrella though?

sprandel, I would be surprised.

doesn't look like sprandel

you have to keep in mind that the price here can't be compared to prices in Alberta. or downtown Calgary.

Bow costs 1.4 billion in downtown Calgary. I think the price tag on the QC proposal is reasonable for the location especially considering the labour cost difference.

I'm a bit surprised at the intense negative reaction to the early renders, which has most people making wild assumptions about the material usage. Reminds me a bit of how everyone hated Aura in Toronto based solely on the rendering.

Just my two cents, but that's one of the ugliest tower designs I've ever seen. It looks like pieces of totally unrelated designs haphazardly jammed together. It's an ill-proportioned, incoherent mess.

Le Phare doesn't look very good, but appearances are the least of my concern. The location is awful, and the site has no interaction with the streets around it. This is a recipe for creating a new downtown that is dead.
