As far as Conservatives go, I didn't hate Baird, but announcing the 80 million to fix up the dump on St-Laurent in the middle of the LeBreton RFP screwed any chance of such a proposal.

Noticed two more separate posts on Twitter this morning related to this...

From @NCC_CCN:
Quote:
NCC to announce the proponents invited to develop detailed proposals for the redevelopment of LeBreton Flats http://ow.ly/JdXNO
Then this, from @alistairsteele:
Quote:
On today's watch list: #ottcity transit commission tackles budget, fare hikes; @NCC_CCN reveals 2 Lebreton Flats finalists. #ottpoli #cbcott
So, according to this last one, does this mean the NCC is announcing only 2 of x number of proponents, or are there really only 2 proponents in total?

My take...either the 2 is a tweet typo or they have narrowed to 2 finalists. I can't see them releasing 2 then another later. We'll see at 3:30 I suppose!

I agree, either the 2 is a typo or there is 2. This from their website:

The media is invited to a press conference to announce the proponents who will be invited to develop detailed proposals for the redevelopment of LeBreton Flats.

Maybe he put the "2" on the wrong side, as in "Le Breton 2", or "phase 2", or maybe he miss-read Chianello's tweet.

NCC will reveal LeBreton contenders today

Tom Spears, Ottawa Citizen

Published on: February 18, 2015, Last Updated: February 18, 2015 11:27 AM EST

The National Capital Commission will announce the identities of the teams proposing to develop LeBreton Flats this afternoon.

The news conference with NCC chief executive Mark Kristmanson is set for 3:30 p.m.

Five teams have already submitted conceptual proposals, and the next step is to develop detailed design and financial proposals for a 9.3-hectare section of the Flats. A selection committee has been evaluating the submissions.

The NCC originally said it would reveal the identities of the approved teams in March, after ratification by its board of directors.

While identities are officially secret, the contenders are said to include Claridge, Ottawa’s largest land developer.

As well, Eugene Melnyk and the Ottawa Senators are involved with another group, although their partners haven’t been identified.

Other participants are widely expected to include Devcore Group of Gatineau and Pomerleau, Quebec’s construction giant.

As for the actual design, as many as four of the plans are rumoured to propose a new central public library. Another possibility is a new home for Library and Archives Canada.

The NCC has said the development should include a “signature attraction” of regional, national or international significance.

— More to come.

My guess is the proponents and ideas of the sight. After there will be a stage where they develop a more detailed design and include financial proposals.

I am following this closely and will post updates in a few minutes. 4/5 who submitted will move forward. Sens included in these 4.

Four teams the @NCC_CCN shortlist: Claridge Homes, Devcore Group, Focus Equities, and Rendez Vous Lebreton Group (that's the Sens).
Quote:
Claridge proposes an arts and culture centre, with indoor and outdoor concert spaces, greenspace, commercial and residential development
Quote:
Devcore proposes "multiple cultural institutions" - doesn't say what -- with a "grand allee," greenspace, commercial and residential devt.
Quote:
Rendez Vous LeBreton Group proposes "major event centre for sports and entertainment" for LeBreton Flats.
Quote:
Focus Equities has a bizarre-sounding proposal: "HQ of an international organization" - again, no idea what organization. Plus other stuff.
Quote:
Focus Equities proposal would also include green space and residential and commercial developments
Quote:
This major event centre would be "complemented by green spaces, and residential and commercial developments."
Quote:
Rendez Vous LeBreton is clearly an arena, plus greenspace, residential and commercial development.
Quote:
Focus Equities proposes to house headquarters of an "international organization accompanied by cultural venues"
Quote:
Each proponent will also get $75,000 to prepare high quality design and financial plan. Submit to NCC in November 2015.
Quote:
the next phase includes detailed proposals, estimates, etc. Each proponent gets $75K for these designs. Public to be consulted in 2016.
Quote:
NCC says it expects to announce successful proponent in mid 2016
Quote:
There are no artists' renderings of anything here at the NCC, folks. Also, these are all the details we have. That's it.
Quote:
The NCC is asking the proponents NOT TO SPEAK about their proposals until they're released early next year.
Quote:
Kristmanson says looking for "attraction of regional, national, international weight" in its anchor tenant

Mid-2016 for announcement of successful proponent? What? That was supposed to be this October God I hate the NCC and their insistence of doing everything at a snail's pace...

What a waste of all that good anticipation today

Does "library" count as green, residential or commercial space ?

Is there a central public library proposal in one of these bids? NCC CEO Dr. Kristmanson says need to ask city. What?
