I have been up there a few times since this in a car.....I get what they were thinking, but when you experience it first hand, it feels like someone who was high tried to configure a street. I haven't biked up that road to see if it feels any better for bikes, but in a car it definitely feels like it could be more risky for people on bikes.

I just have so many questions about this project. Like, why there is there a retail space shown on the second floor? What structural system are they proposing that enables them to curve the exterior walls vertically? Why are there bedrooms where all the windows are located below eye level?

I don't know, I've biked up there and thought it was great. Then again, I live in Sellwood and we have basically no bike lanes... I bike on 17th and Milwaukie, which gives you drivers passing at every opportunity while you share the lane with 35 mph traffic.

True, with how small town neighborhood Sellwood is, you would think there would be a much better bike path system for the neighborhood. I won't even bike on 17th, I sometimes will use 13th though, that road is much easier to deal with.

Exactly. Those windows sure do look neat from the outside, but they'd be terrible on the inside. Their placement makes absolutely positively no sense, and I can't imagine it being built as shown.

I don't ride a ton, but if I do ride my bike it's between Brooklyn and Sellwood. I think part of the problem is that the signs are pretty bad, but I usually take SE 14th to go south until Bybee if I'm south of Hwy 99E. North of there I just take the Springwater on the Willamette.

South of Bybee I like SE 15th or Sellwood Blvd to 7th Tacoma. I think those are the right names.

South of Tacoma I just stay on SE 15th or SE 11th.

For east-west they have SE Spokane as well as SE Umatilla painted with sharrows, diverters, speed bumps, etc.

(I just realized, this is pretty off topic. Sorry.)

If you live in Brooklyn, you should try riding on SE 17th. It has gone through an amazing transformation! I can now ride from Sellwood to SE Division/Powell without getting molested by cars.

Great upgrades down to Hwy 99E, but I hate that intersection. I'd rather just ride slowly on the sidewalk on SE Milwaukie if I have to choose.

pdxdave, thanks for the picture! I saw a crane over that way a few weeks ago but had no idea that it was for this project, or that it was so far along.

It's really cool seeing the skyline grow outside of downtown, and in that location makes it even better.
