If they could make a pedestrian / bike bridge where the train bridge is this development would mAke more sense to me. If you lived there you would have to drive in that horrible traffic all the time. I live by the quay now and whenever I go to queensbourough landing with my car it's a nightmare!
It seems to me that the swing bridge must be open all the time because water traffic demands it. Any pedestrian bridge would have to be a high level one the right? Either that or they leave it open to prevent people walking across it, which seems really unlikely.
Mohkínstsis — 1.6 million people at the Foothills of the Rocky Mountains, 400 high-rises, a 300-metre SE to NW climb, over 1000 kilometres of pathways, with 20% of the urban area as parkland.
No... the rest of the Port Royal community development appears to be still ongoing... or at least the developer is alive at their website. Otherwise I'm not sure how Aragon is phasing this... perhaps they gave out the details a little early?
Yeah, seems like it. But Yeah, I looked at the phases for the entire project on their site. It looks like the tower may be in the next series of construction? Perhaps we'll hear more in the new year

Port Royal developer makes good on $100,000 pledge

Aragon Development Corporation has fulfilled a promise made to the City of New Westminster.
Aragon recently presented the city with the voluntary amenity contribution of $100,000, which was pledged as part of its development of a portion of the Port Royal development. The date of the contribution had been set to coincide with the issuance of the building permit for a 22-storey highrise with 164 apartment units.
According to city staff, Aragon has now taken out its building permit for Lot 5 in Port Royal. In December, Aragon owner Lenny Moy presented the city with a cheque for $100,000 towards establishment of an early childhood development hub in Queensborough.
John Stark, the city's senior social planner, said four projects will benefit from the amenity contribution.
New Westminster takes a stance on Q2Q pedestrian crossing
The City of New Westminster has determined that a bascule bridge is the best bet for a crossing from Queensborough to the Quay.
With the initial technical work complete for the Q2Q pedestrian/bicycle bridge, a staff report states the focus will now be on completing a memorandum of understanding with Southern Railway for the construction and operation of a bascule (draw) bridge, finalizing a design in consultation with Southern Railway and marine carriers, and fundraising to address the funding gap.

Port Royal is one of the most underrated projects in the region; Aragon have done an outstanding job creating an appealing, distinctive community with an incredibly rich selection of housing types - literally from single-family to tower. They've avoided the temptation to reproduce similar buildings on multiple parcels, instead they've taken variation to the extreme, with even 6-unit townhouse parcels having their own architectural identities. Architectural styles of the lowrises range from Whistler-esque to modernist (and are all well-executed), and even the single family homes are nicely varied despite identical lot sizes.
It's also worth mentioning that Port Royal is the largest-scale application of freehold townhomes in recent times, something I hope other builders have been looking at.
Yup, that's it. They were just above ground level about 10 months ago.
I could be wrong but I don't think they have started selling any units yet. Pretty surprising since most developments start pre-sales sometimes before they even start digging.
This project is unusually hush-hush. I registered and they say sales start mid April by appointment. I'm beginning to wonder if this will be very upscale and expensive (for the area anyway).
