Just saw drilling at 2nd in New in old city where the proposal for a nicely sized 10 story building was proposed last year, I think.

So... this is a weird story. Developer who did nothing with a building in Camden across from the Walter Rand Transportation center (huge nexus of bus lines and two rail lines) has building assessed at negative value as the city tries to use eminent domain to knock it down and build a... parking garage? Wtf? Is Robert Moses the new head of the Camden Redevelopment Authority?

They are working on the foundation slab and perimeter walls on north side of site on the 1000 Chesnut project.

The crawler crane if for the precast garage which should start going vertical late this week or next...

Lights on Lits getting mixed reviews

Dear Lord, some of the quotes in this article. My favorite: "It shines right into my living room and reflects off a beautiful painting we have."

I'd be fucking annoyed too. That is pretty shitty for those people. A much more valid complaint than most of the stuff NIMBYs complain about. But...thems the breaks. That area and the vicinity surround it will shift into a commercial/less desirable residential spot. Fortunately, the Market Street East Advertising District is a discrete area of the city, and we are not zoned for such lighting elsewhere. Original inhabitants of Times Square probably were not so happy about the turn that area took either.

I do wonder if this will impact 500 Walnut. I think the reach will not extend so far.

One person was like, "Waaaaa.... my big large east facing windows are still beautiful, but 3 blocks away at the end of the street, the light messes up my large NORTH facing windows...Waaaa....I used to have two giant great views and now one has a sign."

The signs turn off at midnight, and they are supposed to dim at night so they aren't as bright. Real easy fix is to just make them turn off the lights at 10pm on weekdays when no one is there on the street to see them anyway and dim it even more. But, the part of the article that mentions more is coming does make me wonder... if EVERY building can do this, why would they not? Just this one building is ok, but if the entire area becomes times square, that could be a problem. Hopefully there is some regulation on the scale of setting up this commercial district.

Every building in the specific area for which this lighting is zoned may do this. I have no idea how burdensome the lighting is or could be to people living in or near the area. People have a tendency to exaggerate, and it could be that this is really not that bothersome. Whatever regulations that do exist as far as times and brightness should be enforced.
