That's going to dwarf all the other buildings in Arvada. I am shocked the people there didn't argue it was out of scale to the rest of town.

The SkyHouse official Groundbreaking Ceremony starts at 3 PM today. I can't make it, but it is officially under construction!

I already sent them a heads-up about the mislabeled Arvada on the webcam.

I think he is in favor of good architecture and design, and more affordable developments because he thinks outside of the box. The article contrasts his style with big, corporate developers, value engineering, etc.

he's a smart bloke...there is no greater VE than going for surface parking and avoiding elevators! sound a bit like the susan powers / urban ventures model.

I always love it when it becomes official.

Aren't they well known for having great rooftop parties?

I'm sure it was an honest mistake.. they probably thought that's where they were when they caught the light rail at Union Station(ish).

Ed Sealover has pretty good coverage of the construction-defects bill HERE.
Quote:
They framed the issue not as a clash between builders and trial lawyers, but as a struggle to re-start a largely non-existent condominium market in which just 4 percent of new housing stock in Colorado is multi-family homes for sale.
That's a smart start. That said I wouldn't expect the opponents to give more than a begrudging inch.

I never learned what the final Colorado House composition was? IMO this bill reflects a thoughtfully crafted compromise that is hopefully a workable solution. Somebody needs to tell the Dems to take the damn deal. Otherwise politics can change and they may be looking at a much worse alternative down the line. I get so frustrated when reps act out of (misguided) principle rather than being practical.

One of the unintended consequences of the status quo is to encourage more sprawl like the proposed Prosper over adding homeowner density alternatives.

This may be an ignorant question, but the site referenced in this article isn't Block 162, is it?

I believe this is the project across the street. Next to the existing Embassy Suites.

I wonder if she is confused, isn't it going to be one dual-branded tower? Though it was supposed to be 21-stories originally.

Edit: maybe she doesn't mean 2 towers. The headline is a bit odd.

Yes, she is confused. Here is the press release from today:

Le Meridien Denver and AC Denver are Slated to Break Ground in Late Spring 2015, Open in early 2017

PR Newswire
MERRILLVILLE, Ind., Feb. 11, 2015
MERRILLVILLE, Ind., Feb. 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- White Lodging is pleased to announce it will build a dual-branded hotel development in downtown Denver, featuring AC Hotels by Marriott hotel as well as a Starwood-branded Le Meridien Hotel. Construction on the 18-story development will begin in Spring 2015 with an opening scheduled for early 2017.
Rendering:

I wonder if the press release is referring to 18 floors of rooms, which is probably true.

Does that take up the whole width of the block? The rendering looks weird to me.

I did a double take when I saw that (LOL).

But you raise a good point. I had assumed one hotel would be on top of the other although I recall that they would have separate entrances and lobbies, one on California (Le Meridien) and the other on 15th Street (AC). Perhaps they will indeed be two separate 18-story hotels?

Either way 491 rooms (per DBJ) seems like a lot for an 18-story structure. Too bad they didn't add a few stories instead of subtracting. It seems like a great location to me; bit of a shame not to go higher given there will be two different hotel brands.

The numbers do seem off, the Hyatt twins on 14th have 346 rooms in 21 floors on what seems to be a larger footprint. Must be some really small rooms at 27+ per floor.
