Developers seem to be avoiding even bidding on NCC projects.
After the fiasco of Lebreton Flats, Phase 1, I'm not surprised. Who wants to be told to jump through a series of constantly changing hoops thrown out by an organization that works with glacial slowness?

Another one winning the bid by default. That is a serious issue that needs to be dealt with.

The fencing that had been up for a year is down and the lot fronting Queen for this project has been paved over parking.

Is this site officially dead ?

No - It can't be dead if it was never alive.

According to this article, construction on the re starts in Winter 2015. Not sure if that means January-February 2015 or December 2015.

I think that means December 2015.. but it's insanely ambigious. Grr.

Interesting that the same article says that Claridge is starting construction on Icon in January... it looks to me like they've already started.

...

I'll believe it when I see it... They still have to delicately dismantle the facade elements that are there also. No way that'll be done this winter. They should just give up on this project. Had I bought a condo there in 2006, I would've been pissed at how long they would've made me wait. Complete trolling

Hoarding up - time to build??

Walked by the site yesterday on the Queen street side and there is hoarding set up that I don't recall seeing before. If it's now a go for construction I hope the repaving job done on the site only a few months ago was worth it...

They began building up this hoarding last week. It seems the paving job was done by a private company (ParkSafe) who had a special agreement with Ashcroft to operate the site as a parking lot while they were waiting to get all their approvals from the city and the NCC (I believe).

However, soon after the site was repaved last year, I believe the City did not provide a required permit and it couldn't operate as such.

I assume this hoarding is so that Ashcroft can build their condo with "juinor" suites (note the spelling on their sign on the former TD building from Queen St.) or maybe as a staging area for some of the LRT construction? If someone can confirm this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you and cheers.

Looks like it! The hoarding now has banners up showing off what will be there. If I had bought a condo in 2005 for a 2006 opening, I would be pissed that it's taken this long to finally break ground.... Almost pathetic isn't it. Oh well....

Looking at the hoarding, new url, slightly revised branding, and the website, it seems the hotel part this project is gone. It's just a condo. So much for Ottawa's first five star hotel.

Two months after hoarding and nothing. How could any of the original buyers from 5 years ago still be hanging around ? Another NCC fiasco although that doesn't let Ashcroft off the hook either
