Saxbys relocating headquarters to Center City from Broomall, PA

Quote:
Saxbys is officially a Philadelphia brand.

The coffee company has moved its headquarters to a 9,200-square-foot space at 2300 Chestnut St. in Center City — a few blocks from its flagship location at 2000 Walnut St. — uprooting from the suburbs of Broomall, Pa.

The company is in rapid growth mode, and the move to the heart of the city was necessary for that growth.

"The energy in Center City right now is palpable, and we see so many people that want to work for a brand where they can walk, ride a bike or take a train to the office," CEO Nick Bayer told the Philadelphia Business Journal last year. "We felt that being in Center City was really important for this brand."

I didn't realize they were so local! Another location is opening on the corner of locust and 11th.

Long time lurker, first time poster, thought I'd share the view of the Shirt Corner Apartments that I get out of my window - particularly because it appears as though they're about to begin constructing a sixth level in the rear portion of the building, something that I don't think was evident in previous renderings.

It's easier to see if you click through and look at the full size photo, but they've brought piles of cinder blocks up to the top of the massive wall there.

I think the peaked roof should be framed out by the end of the week.

I'm going to post this info here because ..........

I'm not sure if this belongs in the " general " or " overall " development thread .

Just spent some time poking around other city sights and found this info .

It appears , Seattle has a proposal for a super tall some 1200' tall located at 820
2nd. avenue . I couldn't find a name for the building but the architect has designed
other super tall buildings for N.Y.C.

IF this is fact ( and not a pipe dream ) then CITC will not be the tallest outside NY or
Chicago for long . That's a damn shame , I was hoping CITC's roof would exceed 1,000'
and the spire would have exceeded 1200' ...... particularly if there may be a call for a third
building in Comcast's future .

That project is a pipe dream. New development plans have emerged for that development in Seattle and it will likely be under 900 feet tall.

With the W now appearing to be a reality, the number of big projects that are either under construction or at least to the site prep stage is staggering! Philadelphia in 2017 is going to look drastically different.

Comcast ITC 1,121 ft
FMC Tower 730 ft
SLS International 590 ft
W Hotel 582 ft
500 Walnut 380 ft
CHOP 700 Schuylkill 375 ft
1601 Vine 370 ft
1919 Market 337 ft
3601 Market 320 ft
The Summit 279 ft
3737 Chestnut 278 ft

Amazing! And what's even more incredible is how geographically wide-ranging and comprehensive all of this development is, especially when you throw into the mix East Market, other developments along the Delaware and Schuylkill Rivers, etc.

The towers near the river, SLS and CITC are the ones that will make biggest impact IMHO. The 3 new hi rises near the river will be especially prominent coming up 76 or crossing the bridges at Walnut and South Street. Let's hope the 701 Market apt tower moves forward as well- that one will really stand out from that location.

new Drexel building

32nd and race. There will be a childcare center. Mixed use development. There will be 14 2 bedroom townhomes, and161 apartments. From a quick glance at the diagram it looked to be around 20-25 stories.

Edit: the summit has about 20,000 sf of retail space that will be chopped in to 14 storefronts.

Yea, I just finished up a meeting with one of the members of the board who was doing an overview of major projects for the university. Nothing new on the innovation neighborhood or high school plot end.

Sunoco Logistics Mariner East project job creation

Quote:
It's been calculated that Sunoco Logistics' (NYSE:SXL) Mariner East projects will bring up to $4.2 billion to Pennsylvania's economy, supporting more than 30,000 jobs during construction phases and about 300 to 400 permanent jobs.

701 Market ??..... Did you mean the Disney hole at 8th. & Market ?
Or are you referring to that high rise addition that was suggested for the
top of the Lit Brothers building .

701 Market = Lit Brothers high-rise

BTW I like that new sign. It gives more presence from a distance without detracting from the architecture.

More renderings/models of The Porch at 30th Street Station v2.0, from the website of Studio Bryan Hanes, the landscape architecture firm that's leading the project (same firm behind The Reading Viaduct, Sister Cities Park, Pier 68, etc.)

Quote:
The Porch is a 55’ x 500’ parcel of land adjacent to 30th Street Station that sits on a bridge structure situated directly above Amtrak intercity rail platforms. University City District was convinced that this parcel, formerly a PennDOT parking lot, could be better utilized. Its proximity to the nation’s second busiest train station, which attracts 37,000 daily passengers, lends The Porch rich potential as a dynamic civic space.

In May 2013, UCD hired Studio Bryan Hanes to redesign The Porch. Working through an iterative process of model-making and hand drawing, SBH developed a design for The Porch that prioritizes the pedestrian. The design builds up from the existing ground elevation to form new volumes for vegetation and to create a subtly sloping path that enhances movement through the site.

Looks like there will be maybe 4 designated spots for food trucks right off the center of the Porch. UCD did a very comprehensive study of The Porch last year & was looking to do something different with the very east end since it's relatively quiet and sees less pedestrian traffic. Makes sense to me that they would turn it into a play area for kids/families, especially if they continue hosting festivals and other types of programming on the Porch. I'm sure the water feature doesn't need to be activated all the time.
