With some heavy equipment now being moved on-site, it looks like excavation can't be far behind.

From this afternoon.... what exactly is this type of crane for?? I would have thought excavation equipment would be the first heavy equipment on that (small) site...

As mentioned, that is a pile driver. Before the hole can be dug, they will likely drive sheet piles down to the bedrock around the edge of the excavation, so the sides of the hole do not collapse when the hole is dug out. This way the hole can be as close to the property line as possible.

Oh yeah, pile driving, then alternating blasting and jack-hammering; lots of fun for a few months! (We lived half a block from Soho Parkway when it was dug). At least here a lot of the work will be during winter while houses are sealed up. (The dust is also a pain, on top of the noise)

Here's a video of the demolition of adjacent houses. I wasn't aware they were going to demolish everything there.

I lived in that house in 2003 and 2004. Frankly I'm surprised that it took 6 minutes. Stiff breeze and all that.

80 units now sold=25%. They have close to 3 years of construction ahead so they seem to be in fine shape.

Well.. it's a pretty hardcore bunch on the Highrise Construction forum. *Technically* digging, pile driving, etc is only"site prep". "Construction" doesn't start until "an actual piece of the building is in place" or something along those lines. Apparently that can be the pouring of a basement wall or some type of permanent piece of the building.

Go to the New York construction forums and watch the multi-year raging debates around moving a thread from "proposed" to "construction".

Originally it was a gas station. I think it was a Suny's but the land was owned by Imperial Oil (Esso). The house on Norfolk (where there is a black car on the driveway in the 2009 imagery) was knocked down about a week ago.
