I forgot about Pointe of View! The sad thing is, I'm not even sure if that was their worst "contribution" to the Calgary skyline. They certainly left their mark on the downtown west village: http://goo.gl/maps/9dYb3

Pretty sure that entire block is lined with POV projects. As well as the building directly behind this view. So much pink/yellow/beige stucco.

I had to visit the West Block of Canada's ugliest provincial legislature today - the Confederation Building.

It's guarded by a statue of Gaspar Corte-Real, a gift from the people of Portugal in celebration of our strong ties. Of course, the harbour is no longer blocked with the Portuguese White Fleet and the streets are no longer full of Portuguese, so this is one of the last remnants of that relationship.

They may have had one in there but I know most of those are not their doing. The worst offender in Calgary's west end is Lacaille. They're responsible for this shite:

On the SFH front I see your centurion statued garden Brossard and raise you with this Dr. Seuss castle in Calgary.

Most LaCaille buildings are pretty bad. I don't mind Solaire though (well, except for the spandrel-heavy eastern building). Riverfront Pointe was also a definite step up from the previous POV junk.

I like Solaire's shape and the LED's on the curve at night. I hate the green spandrel and yellow brick though. I'll give Lacaille kudos for not marketing it as some gimmicky chateau too.

I really scratch my head though at their colour combinations they choose for their products. It reminds me of spending nights doing charts and wheels for a colour theory course I did at ACAD, where by the end my retinas hurt from staring at opposite spectrum colours for too long that vibrate off one another.

Is that from Lima, Peru? I was there this summer, and in the wealthier areas, every home looked just like this (bars up the wazoo). Mostly because the shittier areas were beyond shitty (that would have been a compliment): not a pot to piss in, or a window to throw it out of.

Wait a minute. It never snows in Lima. In fact, it never rains. What's going on? Where is this? Not in Canada I hope?

Is Super Sexe still around? That place is an institution! I remember walking past it as a child in the early 90's.

LOL, when we were 18 we used to stay there and get shit faced and go to the strip clubs. It's not only Bostonians, it's Torontonians as well.
I don't think that it's that ugly either, it has a cool 60's vibe. If I'm not mistaken the flying saucer section will be kept. Now I stay at the W get shit faced and still enjoy your cities fine entertainment.

And later I noticed there's a redundant "1108" on the front property line wall (with my laptop's screen resolution, I see the MCVIII above the door but only see the 1108 if I scroll to the right). Lame.
