It's one thing to speculate on a new downtown Delta for Calgary in the near future but, this is anyone's best guess. Maybe a modified version of what we've seen to suit the regular Renaissance brand or Canada's first AC Hotel?

**edit ... Just saw in the Calgary thread that the exsiting Delta hotels are being rebranded Marriotts. Talk about crazy timing. It supports that a new high end Delta for Calgary will get built.

Well hopefully whatever they do is of the same calibre as Clubsport would have been.

Do you mean the Delta brand is being phased out completely? Or just the remaining "old school" Deltas are being rebranded?

Do you think Delta's transition upmarket in the past couple years was BCIMC trying to shine up the brand with the intention of making a better sale?

Yes even the diehard Conservatives couldn't bring themselves to vote for him anymore so they brought in Ron Liepert. The smear campaign Anders ran in the run up to the vote was hilarious. My in-laws used to be members of the Conservative party but have not been in years. I guess they were still in the database though as they received like 5 calls a day from Anders' campaign and multiple door to door visits bordering on harassment. That guy was the biggest assclown I've ever seen. Harper's support of him right to the end was not only questionable, it was baffling.

That's what I thought at first, until:

In other news, Ottawa is getting Canada's fist Hyatt Anadaz in the Byward Market. The 200 room hotel with roof top restaurant will open in mid-2016.

This is what it replaced. Original plans called for a complete re-vamp of the building and the addition of a few floors, but people were complaining of:

1. Heritage issues, the building should be preserved as is;
2. Height of proposal (hotel with office ceiling heights).

The developer opted to address #2 by tearing down the old building and starting from scratch.

Does anybody know the status of this Lanterra proposal by Maple Leaf Gardens? It's almost 2 years old now. This is the kind of proposal we should be seeing along the waterfront.

There is no way that building is tall enough/ or will be tall enough to make this list.

Along the whole block down to Dundas there are proposals. Just south there is at least 4 more I believe. One of the more aggressive sections for proposals in town IMO.

You're right, at only 45 storeys it will probably be barely scraping the bottom of the list if lucky. The first 7 floors are office so the ceiling heights might be a bit higher.

Yes, the new design is nice but the current one is better.

I'm not a fan of the concept of destroying an already pretty high building to rebuild it since it doesn't add any more density, but empty land in the Byward market area must be scarce.

New building is 5 floors higher than the old one, so a bit of density was added. Plus, a 23 storey condo tower will be built in a parking lot behind the hotel.

You'd be surprised about available land in the Market. We still have a few surface parking lots and parking garages.

Anyway, this is the Andaz u/c in mid-December.

Currently 72 Carlton St. is at #62, 151.6 metres.

Highest tower east of Toronto?

Well, I guess the following news is to be taken with a grain of salt but here it is:

Cominar, based in Quebec City, has been working for a while on a new huge project for the Ste-Foy district in Quebec City. The 3-D model has been produced and so far we know that it will consist of 4 brand new towers (2 million s.f.) with commercial, office, residential and hotel components.

This morning, Cogeco News (through its FM93 radio station) claimed (apparently from a reliable source at City Hall) that one of the tower would be the highest east of Toronto...

Again, to be taken with a grain of salt!!

A 52 storey tower can end up a lot lower than 1000 Gauchetiere.
