Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

So the project is called Grant Park Tower III. It is on the south side of the park. Architect is Rafael Vinoly. I counted over 70 floors - parapet height is 830'. I did a google search and it appears that it is a project back from the dead with an overhaul on the design. Many step backs with cool pocket green roofs.

Is this old news? Sorry if so, I'm still catching up on my new cities development.

Oh god...
While excited for the tower and height, I'm nervous about the quality of the design now. Vinoly buildings make developers money, but have a tendency to be pretty disgusting on the aesthetic front. Between the "walkie talkie/scorchie" in London and the midtown monolith in NYC, he's been on a streak of damaging skylines.
I really hope he breaks trend and delivers a well concieved idea for Chicago.

I've seen this Vinoly design for Crescent Heights at Roosevelt/Indiana... Not a supertall but looks very much like Sears Tower if it sprouted a few more bundled tubes.

I think it's a little overbearing and clumsy but it's definitely masculine, broad-shouldered Chicago architecture.

Yes this sounds like the same project - it's hard to tell how it will look in the schematics as it's missing cladding info and glass color. I don't mind the massing and as a LA I always love tons of roof gardens.

It is not the same project as 'The Chicago' I think perhaps adjacent to it?

I also noticed some posts further up about the United Center Addition. We are working on that as well and will be a very cool transformative project for that area. We just need the UC to invest in a large parking structure and free up some more of the surface parking lots for development.

This is certainly exciting news that i hope is true and comes to fruition.

The previous structure which was a P/H design was to be about 790'.

So in the photo you posted, is it located on the site of the massing model or that hideous knife blade? (I'm seriously hoping for the latter. I never want to see this rendering again.)

Pretty disgusting? Could not disagree more. 432 Park is badass. I mean, the proportions are ridiculous, but there's an unexpected delicacy to the cladding system that I find really nice. I'm less keen on 20 Fenchurch but I think the idea had promise. Definitely wouldn't call it "disgusting."

Hopefully a it will balance out the Pappageorge Haymes nonsense to the east, then. God, what an abortion those turned out to be.

I believe it is the knife blade building lot - second from the right.

Sidenote: I like the walkie talkie building in London! Have you seen the views from the 'sky garden' in that building? Unbelievable with the concave view... Although the actual 'garden' is noticeably lacking.
