Google Fiber is coming to Atlanta, I wonder how much fiber laying they will need to do before they start rolling out services. Also fully expect Comcrap and Uverse to magically have faster speeds all of a sudden.

To answer your question, they pay A LOT more for internet. This is not high rise development related, so let's keep it moving ladies and gents.

on another note, does anyone know what is going on at grady hospital? they have been excavating the parking lot facing the connector for months now.
I read a long time ago that they are building another hospital tower and probably more parking garages.

It seems hard to believe that there will be a ground breaking this Friday. Does anyone have any idea what the timeline is for stuff to happen?

Also the Post building lot doesn't seem to have any activity. I would think there would be tree removal signs but nothing yet.
Post has a tree removal sign up now

Five more retailers announced for Buckhead Atlanta

Oliver McMillan announced of five new shops, slated to open this spring and summer: Billy Reid; Davidoff Cigars; Ferguson Bath, Kitchen, & Lighting Gallery; Les Copains; and Vilebrequin.

Les Copains is a heritage Italian fashion house, founded on fine knitwear and cashmere in the sixties in Bologna and though the brand has been available in shops across the country, this actually marks its very first U.S. storefront.

Vilebrequin is a Mediterranean-inspired swimwear line born in St. Tropez in 1971. It carries both men’s and women’s (and children’s) pieces, but is best known for it’s bright men’s trunks in hot pinks, canary yellows, and teals, decorated with seahorses, turtles, and sailboats.

Ferguson Bath, Kitchen, & Lighting sells high-end fixtures with personal ,concierge service.

Davidoff is the worldwide leading manufacturer of premium cigars, headquartered in Basel, Switzerland.

There is a permit for the parking deck (BB-201404914 & related demo permit BB-201405306) which was filed on 11/22/14 and a permit for the tower (BB-201500147) which was filed on 01/12/15.

Since tower construction will take a longer period, they will probably be building along 13th st while they work to relocate the 14th st tenants.

As seen by the previous Skyhouses(skyhi?), the deck will be thrown up as a modular thing near the end of the project. The pedestrian ground-floor experience at the Skyhouse South deck with the new shops is pretty good as I walk by it every day, so I guess you can throw up a cheap deck without MURDERING pedestrian urbanity as with the original Skyhouse.

I absolutely hate the fact that the ACE Hardware blacked out all of their windows such that you can't see into or out of the store except for at the two entrances. In my opinion, that's no better than a blank wall like any number of parking decks in Atlanta. The blacked out windows make the majority of the block feel boring and lifeless.

Welcome to the reality of retail...they're trying to maximize their SF for stock not for views. There ARE ways to counter this with the orientation of check-out lanes but this isn't a grocery store (ie look at Trader Joes and even Whole Foods store layouts).

Not sure where you are getting your facts but the new project will have a cast in place parking deck. It has the typical floor plate on the residential floors with upgrades in finishes.

Sounds like that area is filling in nicely.

I'm looking forward to seeing some of our new developments in springtime when people can get out more.

What do you mean by that? Except for being different colors, both are identical at street level.

Also recently the Mgmt has gotten people to paint many parts of the Skyhouse South deck interior. They completed the wall closest to the hi-rise interior side, and they've started on the pedestrian areas around the elevators.

And Seventh Midtown has started, They are now digging a bunch of trenches. I'll get a pic next time I park up top on the Skyhouse deck.

The original Skyhouse has those fake empty storefronts and a bunker-type look while SS has real storefronts, better lighting, and slower traffic.

My god, that is awful. So there are doors leading to windows that have nothing in them?

Regarding the surface parking on State between 17th and 18th: The charging station has been removed, the playground is being moved, and it looks like they're doing soil testing today. Apparently something big is on the way. I assume it will be a highrise given the footprint of the lot, but your guess is as good as mine. This one has flown completely under the radar. Maybe they're just readying the lot in case a builder comes along..?

Coca-Cola is also building out an innovation center in Centergy office. Tech Square is really booming. Wonder how long till they will begin construction on the new HPCC building. Lots of big companies are relocating or building offices in the area.

https://www.bisnow.com/atlanta/news/mixed-use/cw-releases-rfp-for-600k-sf-ga-tech-tower-42067

According to this article the RFQ has been sent out for it.
