Wow. That is so sad. I always go there before heading to the theater.

You have to wonder when Best Buy will follow suit? Every time i go to the Kanata one at lunch, there are always more workers than shoppers (busier during the holiday season).

Everything is going online now, especially electronics. It will be bad for the consumers as there are less Brick & Mortar choices as well as the local economy with respect to jobs but this is inevitable.

I still think of the Future Shop on Ogilvie as 'the new one'. Time flies! I imagine Best Buy will soon announce a merger of their two Canadian brands and cut the stores in half. I hope they keep the Future Shop model... I prefer commission salespeople. They actually care about helping the customers because they have something to gain. The service at Future Shop is almost always good, at Best Buy I have trouble finding anyone with product knowledge or an interest in selling me something.

Meh, I wonder how many future shop customers have been convinced by commission-seeking sales staff to hook up their TVs with $50 monster cables instead of $2 generics...

Future Shop is closing their store in Kingston on Thursday, too. A nationwide scaleback?

Futureshop closed 15 stores back in late 2013 / early 2014, it was a split between the two brands. It seems that they are doing a second wave, with Gloucester, Kingston and I also heard Regina is closing.

I wonder if they won't close the one near me in Gatineau. In the Maloney-Gréber area there is a Future Shop and Best Buy about 1 km from each other.

Sad to hear

Used to go there often when I lived in Orleans. They should have closed the Merivale one instead, have had nothing but bad experiences there and it seems redundant with Best Buy literally a 30 sec walk away.

I wonder if they'll convert some of the Futureshops, that aren't close to a Best Buy like the Barrhaven one, to Best Buy stores.

People have talked about stores near them being deserted but FS and BB near me are both quite busy. I was actually there last Sunday. Maybe that puts the survival odds in their favour. We'll see. The chain closed a bunch of stores in Quebec in recent years, but the Gatineau ones were spared.

I imagine Merivale and Kanata will soon see either BB or FS close, in both spots they are across the parking lot from each other.

That's too bad. I went to the one on Ogivlie fairly often when I was in college. I think Future Shop and Best Buy should merge. Never understood the idea of being your own competition.

Though I prefer the Future Shop, my money is on Best Buy to carry on.

I'm guessing Ogilvie location is closing because parent company Best Buy has a store on Coventry Road? Still much rather prefer Future Shop though.

The same could be said for the Gatineau location. Even more so with Kanata; they're both I the same parking lot.

No!!! Plus, The Source in Gloucester mall is also closed and Loblaws paired back their electronics offerings leaving only Walmart selling electronics around here.

Guess I'm stopping there on the way home to check out the sales.

I never understood that setup on Merivale with FS & BB next to each other. The merchandise in both stores is so similar. Even the futureshop.ca & bestbuy.ca websites a near identical except one's red & the other blue.

They were different companies once upon a time, right?

They are counting on the fact that many consumers will comparison shop at a couple of stores before buying something, without knowing that these stores are essentially the same store. In this way, Best Buy (the company) gets your money either way, as long as the customer doesn't expand their search radius.
