Have they been working on this thing the past week, or did they take it off like a lot of other folks?

Huh. That is one slooooow moving high rise you got there. It's so slow that Layton Construction doesn't even list it as a current project on their website. For such a huge project you'd think they would. From the looks of it, absolutely nothing has changed at 111site for several weeks.

Holidays, and a few snow storms the past couple weeks has slowed this project down. When it snows or has a chance of freezing rain construction on Steel and concrete shuts down till the weather is better. Before all that happened the work on the town and EPAC was moving quickly. Not as quick for the tower but I have noticed one level higher in concrete work on the elevator core just haven't seen the rebar get any higher. January and February will be hit and miss since they tend to be our highest snow and coldest weather months. As the weather improves we will start to see a lot of work going again.

I don't even see anywhere that Layton Construction lists current projects on their website.

Experience/Office/NewConstruction. Also look through their extensive press releases. Layton is a great company.I've always been impressed with their quality. They've definitely grown over the years as well.

HKS Architects is based here in Downtown Dallas and have been a client of the firm I work for. I see they do a lot of work in SLC as well.

Layton construction is not building 111 Main, they are building the EPAC. Okland Construction is building the tower and they seem to only list finished projects.

I previously went to Experience/Office/NewConstruction. There are only 3 featured links. The other categories listed under New Construction do not have links, but only list what types of projects they work on. Layton also doesn't seem to list the Eccles Performing Arts Center on its website.

Layton clearly doesn't list all projects. The project examples Layton posts appear to only be finished projects.

Wow. The rebar for another core jump is starting to be placed. Pretty soon the core will start peaking up and be visible. I will take pics tomorrow when I go to lunch.

Side news. The crane was up at La Porte but I didn't see anyone. Confused by this project. The renderings show the southern half facade will have to old (torn down ) facades but those are long gone and only three stories if they were redone. But there is four floors on the southern end

The core already already about 35 feet tall...

Does anyone have any recent pictures of the site, I haven't been downtown in a couple weeks to take any myself. I'm curious to see if there are any big changes!

I took two rookie pics with my phone today, and am still trying to figure out how to post them.
Technology leads to one snafu to the next.
Why can't the world remain with manual typewriters and Bosendorfer pianos?
OK, change is good...or bad.
Alright, it's ME.
Anyway, the core is still at the same spot vertically as it was since we last had pics, but work is well under way on the core and all around it.
The four story steel wall running east-west where the tower hangs over the EPAC looks to be about done, and I would guess that the EPAC is topped out on the NE side.
There was talk about why only the concrete core is rising, like the Wilshire Grand in L.A., instead of the usual steel beams rising from the ground at the outset.
Not sure.
I know that the Wilshire didn't start the steel until the concrete core was about 18 stories.
We'll soon see.
I may try to post these pics, and depending on the turmoil....I may not.
But either way, I'm going to figure it out and be able to post pics sooner or later.
And thanks to all those who post pics for the rest of us...you know who you are, and thanks to all those with the real dope ins that keep the scoop deep.
You know who you are.
Outie.

Thanks for the update.

One person, on the SLC thread, had speculated about why the steel might not be rising yet, was because it is being supported from the top. I just want to clarify a couple of things on that.

The steel above the EPAC will be supported from the top of the building, but the remainder of the building will be built just like any other highrise with steel rising from the ground and being supported from the ground and anchored to the core. The only difference is that the northern portion of the building will be stronger and designed differently than a normal building with the same shape, because the southern section will rely on the northern section to carry the weight of it.

Thanks for the quick update! Pics are definitely a pain to post on here since you have to use an image hosting website. It makes sense as far as the steel goes since the load of the south side will be supported through the top and from the steel on the north side. It makes sense that the core may rise a ways before the steel follows, just like on the Wilshire project in LA.

Also just like Park Avenue West in Portland. The core got really high before hardly any steel was added.
