The new one will be right across the road, why would they keep the mall location? Would be funny if Dollar Tree moved into the space next to it, lol

Because the mall location is busy, that's why I'm wondering what the reason for moving is.

Anyways back to retail.
Funny the city is trying to buy land from CN to make a dog park if the development plans already include a dog park, isn't it?

Are you sure you didn't confuse "dog park" with "dog's leg"?

The plan is for all Mexx stores in Canada, including the two in Winnipeg, to be closed by the end of February. It is possible one or both of the Winnipeg locations may close earlier. As posted to this thread before the entire company has fallen into bankruptcy which is the reason the stores are closing. The Winnipeg locations are Polo Park and Kenaston Commons. The Polo Park location recently opened in the new wing which already had several vacancies.

Saw a homeless guy being paid to read a novel and prop up a sign on Kenaston over the weekend advertising the clear-out of the store!

Cadillac Fairview seems to have a number of challenges getting very close on the horizon. There are a number of vacancies in the new Polo Park wing where Mexx is located. Sears is on the verge of going out of business any day now. Now there are reports Target is preparing to make a major announcement on their future direction hinting it might be leaving Canada. Add in the undeveloped space on The Plaza at Polo Park and they could be headed for a perfect storm.

Could target really be leaving Canada already? Or is that just some friendly speculation? If Target really abandoned Canada, wow what a complete disaster that was for them.

And it's really too bad given that Target is actually a quality retailer.

But my god, think of the vacant space. Especially if Sears moves on? Who on earth takes all this square footage? Perhaps we're seeing the first frontier on the wave of bricks and mortar retail that are going to fall victim to the internet.

The vacancies at Polo Park are still a trifle in proportion to the total floor area of the mall. I don't think CF is too worried about that. If the vacancies are still there in 5 years, then maybe...

As for Sears, I can't imagine that space will be too hard to fill if Sears goes under or decides to get rid of that location. Polo Park is probably one of the only sites that the new wave of department stores in Canada (Nordstrom/Nordstrom Rack, Saks, Simons, etc.) would be willing to consider as an entry point. Yeah, the Sears sites at Garden City or Kildonan Place might be in tough, but I think that the space at Polo Park will be filled for a good while yet.

Details in Thursday's Paper
https://twitter.com/PaulSamyn/status...117504/photo/1

A new outlet mall is coming to Polo Park. (The only spot I can think of the area around Target)

Their is also an outlet mall just North of IKEA at Seasons of Tuxedo

Grant Park is going to suffer on account of this one. With WalMart opening on Taylor in a few weeks, nobody is going to be interested in that space.

This is really too bad. That's a lot of impending vacancy in an already weak market.

That would be nice, but Shoppers Drug Mart is already there. Simplicity's right, this will be a body blow for Grant Park given that there is no obvious anchor tenant likely to step up for that spot, especially with so much of the action moving to Taylor Avenue.

I'm guessing the 3-month old Polo Park store will get snapped up by one of the various department stores expanding in Canada... that would make a perfect location for a Nordstrom Rack, or even a Simons.

What about the Southdale and Kildonan Place locations? There really are no big junior department stores left to fill those spaces... I'm guessing the best they can do is to maybe carve it up the way that Garden City did with its old Eaton's space and lease it out to a few big box stores.
