Also remember that the cab configuration can be changed bump up capacity another 23%, to around 30,000 pphpd, which is the reason for the 120 m platforms in the underground stations.

This thing certainly is scalable!

On opening day, there will be a 48m configuration coupled @ 3min frequency providing 12,000pphpd. Expected opening day demand is 10,700pphpd.
The city bought enough extra trains to increase to 2min frequency. 48m configuration coupled @ 2min frequency is 18,000pphpd.

18,000 pphpd is thus the maximum frequency out-of-the-box.

To grow beyond that, the platforms at surface stations can be extended to their full length of 120m allowing 59m configuration coupled.
59m configuration coupled, 2min frequency: 22,200pphpd

To grow even further, ATC can be installed (the infrastructure for which is roughed in):
59m configuration coupled, 90sec frequency: 29,600 pphpd

So it can ultimately handle passenger loads almost three times what opening day demand is expected to be.

2015 Winter Construction

What will construction activities look like in each of the three segments – East, Central, and West – along the construction corridor during the winter months?

East Segment

Hurdman Station

Construction of the new Hurdman Station, including elevated guideway work, will be ongoing.

Highway 417

Construction activities such as sewer and light pole installation and rehabilitation of the median lanes continue. Girder installation is currently ongoing at Hurdman Bridge. The installation at the median span is ongoing through January/early February and will be followed by deck work.

Significant progress has been made at the Coventry Pedestrian and Cycling Bridge. Final railing installation and completion of the ceiling is taking place in the coming weeks. Final works such as landscaping are scheduled to begin in spring. The opening date of the bridge to pedestrians and cyclists will be announced in the coming weeks.

Belfast Yard

Works continue at the Belfast Yard Administration and Maintenance Building and includes masonry, panel and glazing installation for the building envelope, as well as roofing on the shed.

Central Segment

As part of the Rideau Station preparatory works, additional support is currently being added to the Rideau Centre Pedestrian Footbridge to allow for underground Rideau Station cavern excavation to begin. The additional support is expected to be completed in January.

The Scotiabank building continues. It is anticipated that the building’s demolition will begin in late January. This will be the future location of one of the Confederation Line Rideau Station entrances.

West Segment

The Preston Street detour will continue throughout 2015. This detour allows transit, commuters, pedestrians and cyclists to use Preston Street from Albert Street to Sir John A. MacDonald Parkway during the Booth Street closure. The detour will accommodate the Booth Street bridge construction, which is part of the Confederation Line Pimisi Station works, scheduled to begin as early as this January.

Upcoming construction in 2015

Jawbreaker (the roadheader currently in the West Portal) is scheduled to be relocated to the East Portal in late January. Construction will also occur at the Hurdman, Tremblay, St. Laurent, Cyrville and Blair stations throughout 2015.

Excavation and support work will be underway for all of the downtown tunnel stations – Rideau, Parliament and Lyon.

Widening of Highway 417 continues and is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2015 to allow OC Transpo buses (from Blair Station to Hurdman Station) to be detoured onto the highway during Light Rail Transit (LRT) construction.

2015 will be a busy construction year for the Confederation Line. The public will see an increase of ground level activity and a significant amount of progress will occur. Stay on-track with us to receive updates on this exciting project and how it is transforming our city.

At the Rideau Station demolition site the construction fencing has giant wraparound posters about the Confederation line with a map of the route, government logos, construction photos, and renderings.

Have you seen the new Confederation Line update? They have spent some money to really make it look professional.

Those Rideau Centre signs should really say "coming soon" or something like that. It must be horribly confusing for a visitor to the city.

The visitor will soon realize & experience disappointment that: "Rideau Station" is a collection of bus shelters; the "transitway" is a bus route instead of rail; and the "O" train is a short straight experimental train route with a handful of stops, instead of a circular route around the City.

...And wonder if they're really in the capital of a developed country, or went back in time to a random village.

Does anyone know if the confederation line doors will close automatically regardless of whether people are in them? I was trying to get on the line 1 in Paris when the doors shut on me and I had to ditch my bag on the train and jump back. Luckily my girlfriend was already on board to grab my bag but I hope we can avoid situations like that.

I find it interesting that even now there's no reasonable estimate of travel time. City is still saying "less than 24 minutes". 24 minutes is the current BRT travel time from end to end, the P3 contract required that this be achieved as a minimum with more points given to offers that bring travel time to less than that. Something like 18-20 is probable given the Alstom Citadis' specs.

Older subway doors often closed with no sensor on the doors like an elevator would have to stop when they contact something or someone. Now, subways are built with a sensitive edge to detect obstacles. The doors will close with something in the way, but is an individual set of doors detects an obstacle it will re-open.

I believe it has been confirmed that the LRT doors will function like the doors on the O-Train currently do. At most stations, passengers will push a button to get the doors to open, and the doors will then close when nobody is detected in the way. When the train needs to depart and the doors are being held open, the driver will override and close the doors, unless they detect an obstacle. Two sensors are required for this operation, one wide area sensor above the door and one more sensitive sensor either along the door edge or in the mechanism to detect added resistance. At underground and busy stations, all doors could be opened by the driver.

Wow, on display at Lansdowne. I guess this is the only time that place will ever see a train.

Or anywhere else in the city centre outside the CBD and Rideau.

Incidentally, anyone else finding the local bus service downtown crappier than usual with the new winter schedule?
