Are those buildings condos or co-ops? In a co-op building would you need all the shares or could you hostile takeover it with 51%?

Never ever going to happen, so you may as well think about new buildings that can get built on existing empty lots rather than demolishing existing buildings to make room for . . . . what exactly?

These buildings will be with us for many many more decades. I'd stake lots on that. I'd quit wasting time thinking about how nice it would be if they were gone.

I'm laughing out loud at 'mute' points and eminent domain. Those buildings are hideous, but they are not going anywhere unless there is some catastrophe.

Don't worry. Not something I was or would be dwelling on...

If two or so highrises are built in the empty lots a block or two down from them they will be forgotten. Aside from those of us on the forum who wish to see them have never existed at all

Philadelphia to close year out with record hotel occupancy

For those who think Philadelphia can't handle more hotel rooms. It seems it can. Even a year with no major conventions, Philadelphia's hotel rooms seem to be a hot commodity right now. For those not aware, Atlanta, often seen as a large convention city with new hotels popping up yearly, the yearly hotel occupancy there hovers around 60%.

Bring on the W and SLS, among others!

Has anyone heard anything about the 701 market tower? Id like to see that one move forward (along with half dozen other proposed projects) because it will really add something in that dead zone in the skyline east of City Hall. The design went for CDR quite a while ago so I was hoping it was moving towards construction. Some high quality new residential development is really needed on the east side.

Love it or hate it, in the modern era it seems that in many, many cases, the areas that can afford big tax breaks are the areas getting and keeping businesses.

Look at some events in New Jersey:

At the same time, the state has lost some major businesses: Car rental giant The Hertz Corp. is moving to Estero, Florida, with the help of $85 million in tax breaks, and Bubble Wrap maker Sealed Air Corp. is moving to Charlotte, North Carolina, with the aid of $35 million in breaks.

There are many other businesses that have moved from the northeast to the south to get tax breaks.

I for one am happy Philadelphia and (Pennsylvania) is one of the places that do offer tax breaks. Offering a $40 million dollar city/state tax break towards a $1,200 million project like the CITC is a good idea in my opinion.

Does any one know if any of the other tall buildings in the city (Mellon, Liberty 1 or 2, etc.) besides Comcast has a tuned mass damper at the top?
