gawd...this company is hellbent on capitalizing as quickly and tastelessly as possible on the city's apartment boom throwing up as many of the largest, cheapest, crappiest looking buildings they can till the bubble bursts.

These dudes must be politically connected to so quickly get this schlock through planning and permitting stages...

Based on render in comparison to the adjacent PECO building and 2400 Chestnut, I'd estimate this is 20 stories and 300+ feet, which would make it a lot taller than the 13 story 2040 project.

It should be a really noticeable landmark from the West at that location.

Yeah, I counted 20 floors as well. But still ... it's basically the same thing with 7 more floors - no? Much better location though - as far as being seen.

So who can do a rendering with One Riverside, 2400 Market, CHOP 700 Schuylkill, and FMC???

Seems a little early to be rendering judgement on the building's design. As of now we've seen a single picture, and a blurry one at that. I agree that they seem to value turning a quick buck more than creating great buildings, but in this regard they're one of many and I would say they're far from the worst.

I honestly think 2040 market looks pretty good, especially considering what the project is. This isn't a game changer, but not every project can be a home run. I think this city would be much improved by a lot more projects like this in which very underutilized buildings, are given a tasteful face lift along with some added height.

1) It has a high probability of getting completed.
2) While its just some glass cubes as far as I can tell from the washed out photo of a Powerpoint slide, it's still an improvement, no? (although I'll miss the whales)

Fair enough. Glass cubes are glass cubes, but I think a proper render may sway some opinions.

Did Blatstein get far enough in his plans for this site to disclose a render? As best I can tell, he was going to place a residential tower on top of the existing structure.

Goldenberg is a joke. They sat on the disneyhole forever and lost the casino license, serves them right. I have little faith they can do anything better here. Stick to suburban developments

I think this footprint could have a big impact on the waterfront. Apologies for quick attempt.

I remember reading some TripAdvisor reviews on the FS and the theme of many reviewers was that it was a nice hotel but not up to FS standards and in need of a renovation. So it's good that the new owners will improve what already is a 4-star hotel.
I speculate the new hotel will be either a 4* Renaissance or JW Marriott. I'd bet that since the new 4 Seasons is designated a "Flagship" - and because of its location, it'll open as 5*.

2040 isn't a showstopper, trust me. If you can point out a stunningly designed PMC building, I'll rest my case---but you can't. The rest of my post is only slightly sensationalistic--they are building shlocky, non-architect driven, pre-fab disasters like gangbusters in an apartment building boom b/c they are making killer bucks on them all.

Unfortunately, after PMC's CEO has retired to BOCA in 20-30 years, we're the ones left with these awkward nightmares--like the former snellenbergers building now. One step forward, 3 steps back. These will not only become horrible, dated relics, but due to their hasty prefab nature will also collapsing in on themselves.

Honestly, I'm the most gung-ho advocate of development at almost any cost--but we deserve better than the shit these guys are churning out.

The massing of 2040 addition is not good. Don't necessarily want a block long wall there. These PMC clowns can do what they want at a benign place like 19th + Arch but they cant be screwing up the waterfront.

Plan Philly Article is up.

Likening the west Market St. corridor, and 2400 Market in particular, to a "hole in the donut" of a revitalizing Center City and University City, Stavin announced PMC's plans for 300 apartments, a 150-key hotel, 200,000 square feet of office space, 120,000 square feet of design center (already there, but being relocated and compressed onto two floors), an unspecified number of parking spaces, and first floor retail promenade akin to what Paul Levy and CCD proposed back in 2007.

observation deck for One Liberty officially moving forward

Nutter and co had some champagne to celebrate the official announcement of the observation deck. I think they said it would open late spring or early summer. Here's an old article on it. http://m.bizjournals.com/philadelphia/bl...rvation-deck-for-one-liberty.html?r=full

Can someone explain to me all the frustration I see on this thread about 2400? The rough renderings of the building appear to look better than the current whale one which to me is an eyesore, no offense. I just want to see where people are coming from.

This is a major development going smack dab between two of the ugliest 60s buildings we have. I don't understand the hate either.

Tons of good news today! Observation deck for One Liberty.

2400 Market redo - I don't think it's that bad, and these are only massing renderings, not the final design.

Boyd theater redo back on.

1213 Walnut getting going.

New hotel for old Four Seasons.

I like it!
