Lots of soil borings being taken for AMLI Midtown. Their first round of samples was taken a few months ago.

I thought I saw the siteplan for this but cannot find it now. Anyway, they started clearing the land for this project. It looks like they are only clearing about half of the land now, but I think the land with the highrise portion is included.

There's a "Starbucks" overhead sign now in the Viewpoint Retail section, where the 7th and Peachtree Starbucks is going to move to. I dunno guys, I don't think Seventh Midtown is far away...

It appears from the city's permitting website that they are very close to having the permit. It looks like there's only one or two more items that need to approved in the zoning review.

It appears they already have the demolition permit for the existing Starbucks.

Well they've drilled SEVERAL holes. We just can't have nuthin' nice!

While I'm not generally a fan of empty lots, I did enjoy this lot's current use as a staging ground for movies - empty lot one day, massive tent set up the next day, cast and crew trailers for a week, then back to an empty lot. I work right across 17th street from this lot and directly across Bishop St from the new "Heights at Bishop" apartments going up. Between Heights, the Fuqua project, and the new complex going in at 17th & Northside, I can soon kiss my easy commute goodbye.

Yes, they are in Day 4 of this. Is this normal, that on such a small site they would be drilling so many holes? At what point in the process is this usually done?

Thanks.

A more detailed geotechnical investigation of the site is typically needed prior to finalizing the structural/foundation drawings. I'd say this means they are still in the design process... early CDs maybe?

Probably a sign that construction will start relatively soon-- many borings indicate that they are working from foundation plans and need to test at specific areas-- this is compounded by the fact that this part of Midtown has a lot of rock close to the surface. Yes, they are probably somewhere in design-- DDs?

Thanks. All this is new to me.

The holes closer to West Peachtree do seem to be in some alignment, but if they are following the foundation of the building, it is quite a narrow footprint.

Borings like that would indicate its in design, however with a building that size you are still probably a couple of months from completion of CD's and permitting.

Could be at column footings within the footprint of the building-- not all at the periphery--

New Tech Square Development

"Plans include 8- to 10-story buildings with up to 1.5 million square feet of office, hotel and potentially retail space to serve the city's booming startup community. Seven Oaks could sell the land or partner with others to develop it."

Good overview! I get in about once a week from the burbs but don't recognize any of these new apartment neighborhoods. Atlanta must have 100k new residents with all the units.
