Summer 2015 scheds still showing 2 daily (well 13 weekly) YYC-SLC. Yes, there are reductions throughout winter and spring which is normal but summer is back to 2 daily.

Probably fair to assume AC 789 service on YYZ-DEL/BOM will never happen?

There is still potential for 788 service YYZ-DEL. AC operated with codeshare on AI. However you are correct in that potential is rapidly diminishing on the list of priorities. There is huge potential through the AC/CA joint venture, YYC/YUL-PEK is two aircraft commitment, split the routes into daily each that's four aircraft, add in YVR to secondary china market and it's 5 aircraft operation, or third of the 788 fleet.

Another knock against DEL is the joint venture with LH. I know that a key feature of the AC/UA/LH TransAt JV is beyond revenues but I don't know if one of the countries included in the JV is India. The beyond revenue feature would allow AC to benefit from funnelling pax through FRA and MUC to India with LH.

Soon the ME3 will be the national airlines in India.

I can see KLM cutting the DEL flight, but also this will not have much of an effect on Alberta flights. KLM has much more African connection traffic than Indian connection traffic. Overall a minor hit for AC LHR /FRA and KLM AMS, however moderate hit to BA LHR based on my observation of their YYC checkin desk, appears to be a good number of vacation bound infrequent travellers going to India.
The KLM flight is also quite popular with DEL connections (not just YYC, but other NA destinations), have taken it a few times personally from YYC. It is better timed than BA too.

I would be surprised to see KLM cut DEL completely. IIRC they even operate the 744 during winter months.

Never say never. As growth continues out west there will be increasing interest in providing one-stop service to India from places like YXE, YQR, YWG, etc. This can realistically only be done through YYZ (or MSP, but that is even more unlikely). If AC is able to get 20 or so ppd from these three cities, add in YYC, YEG & YUL feed (YVR may be a stretch), plus a few bodies from connecting transborder routes and finally O&D demand from the GTA, YYZ-DEL may just start making sense.

Some updates from the IFP.

Granite installation making good progress in the International Holdroom. I don't think we'll ever see the floor this clean again.

The first air bridge is on site and being installed. The IFP has a different set-up than the current ATB in that each gate position leads to a glass walkway, called a "fixed link". The fixed link connects to two different air bridges. This allow simultaneous loading of up to two different aircraft, or loading of one and unloading of the other. Essentially, each gate is able serve two flights at once.

Expansive Transboder Holdroom. Looks empty now but is gonna look great with the new Retail, Eating/Drinking Establishments and Holdroom Seating. Can't say much - but it's gonna be awesome!

Look down the Transborder Pier. Very wide & open space. Offers some good views of 17L / 35R.

Toulouse-Blagnac has these in their new terminal. Their's has 3 connections to the terminal to direct passengers to customs/baggage.

Not sure the images works. Here is the source site http://www.anna.aero/2010/01/29/will-toulouses-new-hall-d-attract-more-foreign-airlines/

I love flying here to see the A380s! And my wife's family

Now that AI is in Star, makes even more sense, people can connect easily at DEL to places like ATQ, BOM, BLR etc.

YVR still calls it Castlegar.

Dang it! They should have gone with Cancelgar.

Also seeing the "retarde" on the remarks has the Airbus voice going "Retard Retard" in my head now.

For reference:

Here is how I understand it:

Traditional terminal:

-go through security/customs
-some open area with restaurants/services
-most passengers wander to their gate and wait for the flight

New IFP terminal:

-go through security/customs
-enter into the holdroom, full of shops and services
-announcements are made on PA and screens to call passengers to the gate for their flight at a certain time (so not as much waiting space at gates proper?)

Anyone else feel free to correct me if I'm off on this.

Correct.

When referring to "holdrooms" in the IFP, the term essentially means a single, large, common use (that is for all airlines and pax) area where people go after check-in/security/customs and before boarding their flight. IFP will have two holdrooms, one for International (Europe, Asia & South) flights and a second for Transborder (USA) flights.

Both holdrooms have ample seating and numerous Food & Beverage and Retail establishments. When your flight is ready to board it will be "called" and pax will be directed to proceed to their gate for boarding. Hence the name, Call-to-Gate. Seating at the gates will be limited as the idea is have pax spending most of their time in the holdrooms and then essentially walking right onto the plane when it's time to board.

It's explained better here. (architects are better writers than engineers)

Hmm, any idea how many minutes before your boarding they announce the gates in this holding-room type scenario? If it's only slightly before boarding they start boarding, I could seeing it being a bit of a mad rush to the gate, as international flights always tend to be pretty packed and full of anxious people just aching to be first on board.

Haha hilarious. And ya even tho our airport is called West Kootenay Regional, YVR has always called us Castlegar. And I see our flight is late but Chicago is right beside us and also late so don't feel too bad. Pretty good airport company.

AA going to 319s to DFW next summer

AA's latest sched update has both daily DFW flights operating as 319s instead of 738s so back to a more capacity match with the MD83s.

If I recall correctly, at Heathrow T3 (which is also call to gate), you didn't know your gate number until half hour prior to boarding.
