Let down again YAY, so a gigantic 5 story building is being built and those historic facades are being destroyed by Point Park; all around great news in the past week. So, wheres this rendering anyways?

So, basically they are moving into a building similar to Alcoa's move to the north shore. Boo. I lied it doesn't look as nice as Alcoa

Confirmed at 5 stories, 268,000 square feet.

That means it's 53,600 feet per floor roughly - 1.23 acres per floor. Slightly larger floor plates than the UMPC building.

Given the pictures, my guess is the building will stretch from Centre to Wylie, with the bend following the planned cross street. I think there'll be a big useless patch of green space in the front too.

There was not even an architectural firm hired. It was designed by the development company. This is a really sad effort.

I would have preferred them to have moved out by the airport rather than waste the site with their Southpointe —.

Well... I was excited to hear the news last night, but unfortunately what I said a few months ago on here was once again confirmed... We just have to resign ourselves to the fact that Pittsburgh just cannot get good design.

Wow... from a 70 story HQ to 5. Very disappointing.

70 story to 5 pretty much illustrates the crumbling of US Steel over the years. It's not even a top 10 global steel producer anymore and has certainly lost clout on Wall St. Even so, I thought that they could do better than a low rise suburban office park. I would rather they built out by the airport.

This is truly an embarrassment for Pittsburgh.

While the height is disappointing I could live with it if the architecture wasn't so bland. This says nothing about US Steel as a company! Alcoa at least created a landmark type structure. Where is the steel? This could just be a random suburban office building.

In all fairness, it probably will be a nice design when finished. Think Alcoa HQ. That is an architectural gem at only a few stories tall. Never shed any tears over the initial renderings.

Raise your hand if you thought that when the Civic Arena was razed, there wouldn't be a single building built on the cleared land that would be taller than it.

I don't see why they can't just be the anchor tennant in a building with double the square footing. Lease it to other companies or expand as needed. Based on their number of employees currently in the Steel Building, they're also going to be doing some serious downsizing.

Construction is to begin in August. I would be willing to bet what we see is what we are getting.

The building will stretch the entire block, but one side of it will be open with a green space.

I don't see any rendering on Clayco's website yet:

EDIT: Renderings here though... http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/...ew-headquarters-location-300000243.html#

It actually says everything about US Steel as a company...
