No it was a joke. The oldest SDM in SJ I believe; it was not always a SDM, but I can't remember what it was.

Edit - I remember the parking lot where you can't go in or out without going through the local streets behind it first.

Yeah, the woman who owns all the KFCs in the city decided to close them and start a health food chain instead. Didn't work out. So Mary Browns bought the old KFC a few blocks down Freshwater and closed up shop across from Booth Memorial High School.

This is how Calgary does ugly corners:



The area actually has some promise. There's an old heritage building kitty corner to this, and a wood-frame apartment across the street, plus the future SE LRT alignment runs along the right side of the frame (there will be a station in this area). Can't see this ugly corner being remediated and being anything but a gas station though.

Are you sure that's in Calgary? Aside from the traffic lights, it looks the gas station where two NS rural routes meet near where I lived while growing in an economically depressed part of the NS country side.

That's what at least half of Calgary's east side looks like. Mile after mile of one-storey warehouses, bare-broken asphalt, and gas stations. It smells...unpleasant, as well.

I went to high school near this exact location for one year. (Can you tell I don't remember the area too fondly?)

I seem to recall that some of the more inner-city industrial areas (such as what's posted above) having gravel streets in portions. These are areas only a few km from downtown. This was from an unfortunate time having to work terrible but relatively well paying industrial jobs.

Looks like there's still at least a few left, hopefully fewer than I remember:

Busted: It was St. Anne Academic Centre. I went to Bishop Carroll (the Catholic board's "learn-at-your-own-pace" school) and goofed off/slacked off so much in grade 12 that I had to go back and make up classes the following year. St. Anne was a sort of remedial academy for screw-ups, and that was my purgatory for 10 awful months.

It actually isn't in Ogden, but Ramsay—I was mistaking the pic below for another Ogden Road-adjacent gas station.

But the overall FEEL of the areas is the same.

You'll also find some north and east of Chinook in areas like Philllips Park.

Okay that makes more sense. Oddly enough I think Ogden could see a renaissance one day. It's kind of an odd little village in the middle of the Industrial Parks.
