That's not a bad idea.

I believe the DRC requested them to provide some screen for the parking deck. You can see the "updated" renderings from Liveable Buckhead's website:

It's too bad Kudzu isn't evergreen – it'd improve the Novare parking blight.

I love that the two student towers are changing the urban landscape of Midtown and the skyline from many different places...here's 4 photos I took this past weekend of the two new towers under construction.

I'd take an unscreened parking deck over a kudzu-choked one any day.

It was meant as sarcasm! Both are blight!

However, here's an example of a plant screened parking garage in Miami that's actually quite beautiful. This sort of screening would greatly improve many of the uglier parking garages around town and have additional environmental benefits.

Sorry, I'm not sure if that link is working. Google, "Miami Valet Parking Garage" or "Arquitectonica Parking Garages."

Edited to update faulty link

The Northpark parking garage in Dunwoody isn't so bad either. This is much more of a garden than it is screening.

Unfortunately the amount of real-estate for the "garden-style" parking deck screen is larger than the blocks in Midtown and Downtown. The footprint of that deck alone is about 3/4 of the GA Dome.

It's great to screen parking deck with art/landscaping. But I suppose that's what we'll have to live with until we have either the critical mass where transit is actually perceived to be useful for a greater portion of the population (thus bringing in more money for it for expansions) and thus reducing or even eliminating the need for so much parking infrastructure.

Does anybody know who will have the right of way with these new trolly's? I have never had to drive around a city where they exist before, and I am curious how this will work. I am also scared that trolly's will come out of nowhere and hit me, or not stop at a light or stop sign. Any ideas?

First of all they are streetcars....not trolley's. They follow the same rules as cars- abiding stop signs, within the speed limits, etc.

As far as pedestrians in crosswalks- the streetcar has the right of way for obvious reasons - it cannot simply stop like a car when a pedestrian jumps out into a crosswalk. (They have painted crosswalks that cross the tracks to alert pedestrians of this).

The lights are synchronized with the streetcar and one would hope further synchronization/tweaking will be necessary to adjust to the various traffic patterns downtown. One example where the streetcar has to cross all traffic is at Peachtree/Ellis. To make a left turn all lanes in all directions are given a red while the streetcar is prompted with a specialized light to signal to the driver that the left-hand turn is safe.

Ah yes.. They must of updated the article since I first read it. Looks like they're moving into the existing 201 17th street tower.

With this lease, I'd assume office space in midtown is getting pretty tight... Here's to hoping the next year brings an office proposal or 2!

That Post building looks nice.

Wonder where will the lobby and pedestrian entrance will be? From the photo it looks pretty closed off from the street.

Thank you for answering, I guess we will learn more as we go. I looked it up, a trolly and street car are pretty much the same thing. Thank you though.

College Park approves new $35 million mixed-use project near MARTA station

The Atlanta Business Chronicle is reporting that the city of College Park has approved a $35 million mixed-use development that would take shape near the city's MARTA station and Hotel Indigo.

The city gave the OK to the project Nov. 17, paving the way for an affiliate of H. J. Russell & Co. and Air Realty LLC to develop a mid-rise apartment building and 75,000 square feet of office space. The 3.5-acre site includes the block at Harvard and Princeton Avenues and Washington Street. The joint venture is in talks with a lender to finance construction.
