haha no worries so basically this will be the core of the building. which means all your elevator shafts and fire exit stairs will be. The tower part i think your referring to is the core so yes.

I took a walking tour with the Preservation Alliance (highly recommended) and the tour guide said that the visible wood grain was an intentional design to showcase the concrete. It was a form of brutalism.

I'm honestly not trying to start a fight ...but I really do worry about how long this building will be able to keep it's "tallest building outside New York and Chicago" title.

I mean, I'm from Pittsburgh and it irritates me to know that the developers of the US Steel building had originally planned to build the tower as one of the tallest in the world and then settled for tallest outside NYC and Chicago, only to have that title taken away not too long after (how long was that anyway?).

That's part of the reason why I've got my eyes on Philly, it's a city that looks like it may be able to do what my city could not.

How long do you think Philly will hold this record? Either way I hope this leads future developers in Philly to build want to build taller. I'm wondering if we might need something sooner than I think.

To me it's of just slightly more consequence than the price of tea in China

Philly has taller buildings than Tokyo. Dallas or Atlanta may get taller buildings than Philly. See my point?

Two years. TransAmerica in SF beat it in 1972. Atlanta's Bank of America Plaza has held that title since 1992... the Wilshire Grand in LA will beat that record for a brief period before CITC is done... unless SF's Salesforce Tower is done first. Either way, CITC will get title, but I doubt it will be for very long.

What will surpass CTIC in the near future? Is there anything in the pipeline?

For a tower to even be finished within two years of the CITC it would have to be proposed basically right now and experience no difficulty with financing, approvals, etc. Super talls don't normally just spring up over night. At this point it seems very unlikely a tower will surpass it by 2020 and the more time passes without a legitimate proposal to build such a building, the longer you can safely push that date back. I'd guess that CITC is the tallest outside of chicago and nyc for about 10 years.

That's not quite true. I think Miami has supertall proposal coming down the pipeline that could get under construction in the next couple of years. I won't be taller than CITC though, so back to the original question, it doesn't look like anything will take that title from CITC for quite a few years. I'd guess 2020 at the very earliest.
