With the absence of an alley and the odd bay window, I'd bet the original concept for this building
was that it would be expanded onto the empty lot next door. Too bad the project will just be 4 storeys.

Sorry to ressurect this post but if anybody's interested in seeing the inside of this place, they're doing a pop up shop for some of the interior designers today and tomorrow. Details in the Sun:

This is the Audi building on Burrard, I think the 3D steel facade was a nice touch.

The building behind the Seaforth Armory and Molson Brewery. There's a basement level too, it's huge by Vancouver standards.

Radius at 4th & Fir

Park at 6th & Fir

Rezoning notice just north of said park. One of the newer social housing towers is just north of this tower, below the Earls on Broadway. Quite a bit of residential moving into an area that used to be more industrial and commercial like lower Mt Pleasant and the False Creek flats are today.

Good looking building. Those cement squares and bonus sized patios are great: here, Rolston, Marpole Safeway.

A couple shots of Kits 360 at Burrard and 6th. Good attention to detail, overlooked because it fits in well with its surroundings.

300 West 2nd: Demolished as of yesterday
- This is the large former auto-repair site, across the side street from Maynard's Block
- Some nice views of the rear of The Exchange and James

North Mt Pleasant:
- Momentum of redevelopment is building, post 1940s many small landlords built for light industrial which dominated the area until the 1980s when False Creek deindustrialized. These landlords are no longer sitting still due to the market, and their increasing age
- Since then properties were re-purposed for distributorships and rental stores
- In the last few years there have been new tenants for fashion boutique, art gallery, 3D printing, and of course a craft brewery storefront
- MEC is vacating 47,500 from the Radia Block at 149 West 4th
- Cressey is building 'Fifth' at 380 West 5th. 49,000 sq ft of commercial on 3 stories, above 111 underground parking spots

Empire @ QE Park (Cambie + 29th) has the two main buildings topped out with a little one in the middle almost done with the concrete. Should have some really pretty views.

A bunch of development notice boards for lowrises are up on Main St just south of 33rd (where Little Mountain Coffee is, or south of the car dealerships at 32nd.) I think the existing structures were all 2 story apartment blocks, but there may have been a range from detached homes to 3 story apartment blocks. This is the area just next to and east of the Little Mountain former social housing and future Holborn redevelopment.

No signs of activity over at Oakridge Mall, it feels as if many projects will be conceived/approved/constructed before they break ground over there. Does anyone know if they are ready to begin and are just waiting for the holiday sales period to pass? I do follow the posts of the civically informed here, but I don't know which of the different panels, committees, departments, or votes represent the final step before construction.

I doubt they'd touch a mall right before the Christmas shopping boom, but January might be a different story. That's my favorite Safeway, I pass it 2 times a day and it's in the perfect location for me. Too bad it will be gone/closed soon.

It will normally stay open while they build the new one on the current parking lot.

I was driving down Rupert two weeks ago, and noticed a newer development at the SW corner of 22nd Ave. It's the first new development I think I've ever seen in the area. Didn't get a pic, but it's on Google Street View:

https://www.google.ca/maps/@49.250599,-1...1!3m2!1s7uBD8lbMzx4UCHZP5sKH3Q!2e0?hl=en

And further down the road, there is a proposal for social housing units for the firehall at 54th and Kerr, across from Champlain Mall:

I was walking down the back alley behind 179 Main Street in the downtown east side taking pictures of the decrepit old Main Rooms building and then when I came out to the front I saw this redevelopment sign. Interestingly, Main Rooms (119 Main Street) will not be part of the project.

Too bad that Main Rooms isn't .... not sure how that place has not been condemned.
Maybe it's wall will fall down when the existing buildings are removed. In any case, there won't be any more light on that side.

Haven't seen any mention of this interesting little proposal in West Point Grey.
http://former.vancouver.ca/devapps/pc2615trimble/index.htm

It's located at the SW corner of Trimble & West 10th Avenue, where there is currently a small heritage building. The proposal would see a 4-storey building constructed above and behind it.

Architects are GBL. It passed the UDP 7-1 back on March 25.

I love that. Keeps and compliments the old heritage commercial building. If they do something interesting with that back patio, even better.

Looks good.
The setbacks respect the pediments of the old building.

Can't get better than this: adds a bit of urban sophistication to the west side.
