In that case I think any small town in Quebec with a tall church and picturesque setting could compete for this title, or any coastal town in Newfoundland.

I agree. Quebec City is gorgeous and I loved my trip there, but calling its handful of towers a skyline is really stretching it.

They still qualify as a skyline. Industrial smokestacks can qualify as a skyline as well.

The outline of all the buildings (skyscraper or grand hotels and church steeples) is what constitutes a skyline. Quebec thus qualifies and has quite a nice skyline at that. It barely cracks my top 10 in the country though.

Okay, based on these new qualifications, which don't require any high rises (or buildings for that matter) to make a skyline, I hereby declare Banff, Alberta to be Canada's greatest skyline. Toronto, you don't even crack the top 100. Sorry.

It's really not bad at all. Although 90% of Mississauga is very suburban, the City Center area has an upper middle class and young population, enough retail (even excluding the large mall) and eateries at grade, nightclubs, government services, a large library, YMCA and green spaces for playing sports. There's a good mixed demographic which is friendly and social, having lived there previously for over a year I can vouch for the quality of the living experience. The streets are quite wide and some stretches of road are quite quiet. Things are developing quickly and it has plenty of foot traffic, you don't need a car to survive, though bus commutes to downtown are quite long (45-50 mins).

You can use hyperbole all you want, but this won't change 99.9% of people's opinions on skylines.

You are not seeing this with good faith. I will not post picture of Quebec City as to not clutter the thread, but those two images here and here prove that Quebec City does indeed have a skyline, and it's is amazing. If Banff has anything comparable, then great !

I don't think Quebec is so much of a stretch. My city, Yellowknife, etc... that's BARELY over the line. Completely defensible to think they do or don't have a proper skyline in the way we mean it here.

Sure, even a shack on a field could technically be a skyline - but I think most people here would expect a sort of vague minimum height threshold for the city's tallest, and a minimum number of highrises based on the forum's definition of those.

But Quebec City, I think, is far enough over the line that it should objectively be considered to have a proper skyline. And, if not, it's - to me, at least - one of those special cases where what it does have simply works well enough.

Banff doesn't really have a skyline unless you count the mountains. The Banff Springs Hotel is out of town a bit and has a mountain behind it, so there isn't really a skyline effect there.

Those pictures of QC look great BTW, such an attractive city that I very much need to visit soon.

In this context, I think it is the collection of buildings against the sky that would be considered a skyline.

But not much, I swear.

Halifax has the Dominion Public Building. I love that so hard. And the mix of beautiful, grand old and (forgive me) largely hideous new (with lots of exceptions) is really nice.

And Regina has those twin "towers".

Hamilton has the two-level skyline, which awesome. I could easily put it anywhere with those three on any given day.

I just had a few specific buildings I love in the others on my mind.
