Common don't post wrong facts in this forum. You are saying that the cost of land is 12 times more in Metrotown than Brentwood? I don't know where you get your source of info but that's not even remotely close.

Is there any recorded video anywhere where I can watch his speech at CHMC?

" 20.7 million sale of a 1.1 acres in Burnaby's Metrotown area " =18.8 million per acre

Also "$1.45 million per acre for a 40-acre site bear Burnaby's Brentwood Skytrain station "

I trust the reliability of this source

Correction: Metrotown land is 12.96 times more expensive than Brentwood, not
12 times. Ha ha ha

No, it wasn't. It was a rant against housing prices in metro Vancouver, the whole region.

They already faced enough opposition with these two heights. Having said that I would be surprised if the next tower to go up isn't taller than these two.

high end does seem crazy at this moment but brentwood could position itself as a higher end mall vs metrotowns more working class vibe of a mall but they would need to really attract and get some good anchors to go in from the start
if gucci or lv was in the market for a store in burnaby, brentwood could be more attractive then what metrotown is, having wholefoods in the area certainly helps establish a new level of retail for the brentwood area

Shape Properties recruited Maria Holly early this year who was heavily involved in the original development of The Village at Park Royal, as well as the more recent expansion of Park Royal. She is now the person in charge for attracting fashion retailers into leasing at the new Brentwood redevelopment. Hopefully, she will not disappoint.

Wow... Sounds too promising...
Quote:
The Brentwood redevelopment plan envisions a signature destination with an urban feel that will support sustainable lifestyles where people can shop, work, live and play. It will house 1.3 million square feet of retail, 500,000 square feet of office and high-rise residential towers. As a mixed-use, transit-oriented city core, the new Brentwood will be a preferred shopping, leisure and entertainment destination for the region, and an attractive home for residents and businesses with the introduction of new residential and commercial office opportunities. This pedestrian friendly, enclosed and open air retail and residential community has started to unfold, with construction now commenced.

Live above the most revitalized City Centre in the region’s history within a 63-storey high-rise. From down below, you’ll marvel at the tower’s intricate detail and soaring lobbies. From a distance, you’ll immediately recognize its timeless elegance, as well as the dramatic freestanding penthouses perched atop the tower’s summit.

Twenty-eight acres at Willingdon and Lougheed are transforming into a premier residential, shopping, entertainment and social community unlike anything this region has ever seen. What will Brentwood feel like? Amazing. An on-site SkyTrain© station will whisk you into a breathtaking public plaza brimming with festivals, markets and unforgettable seasonal events. Its wide, walkable boulevards will be lined with boutiques and cafés, and will lead to the city’s most desirable indoor shopping experience. Here’s the best part: luxurious residential towers will become the area’s crowning touch with beyond-amazing views in every direction.

• The residential experience of Shape Living and the reputation of noted architect James Cheng
• 563 high-rise homes over 63 soaring storeys located in the heart of it all
• One-, two- and three-bedroom residences, each with an expansive terrace
• Six high-speed elevators travelling from 700 to 1,000 feet per minute
• Over 19,900 square feet of private outdoor space, including a wind-protected outdoor lounge, outdoor fireplaces, a children’s play area and vibrant gardens
• Over 8,700 square feet of indoor amenities, including a fitness centre, an entertaining kitchen, guest suites, a music room, and a huge social lounge with a 4-person dining room

Convenient Outlets: Well-placed USB and 4-plug outlets so all your devices can charge close by
Spacious Laundry: Side-by-side Bosch washer & dryer with space to hang items and store household products
Amazing Balconies: Enjoy outdoor living on a large patio where picturesque views stretch on before you
Nine-Foot Ceilings: Extra ceiling height gives your home a spaciousness and openness you’ll love coming home to
Designer Kitchen: A kitchen island with breakfast bar, and floor-to-ceiling cabinets for almost double the storage space
Storage & Parking: A private storage space and at least one secure underground parking spot are all yours

TRANSIT AT YOUR DOOR
Brentwood is at the corner of Lougheed and Willingdon in Burnaby, with Highway 1 close by for easy access east and west. Brentwood also offers a fully integrated SkyTrain© station right on-site, which means you can leave your car for a very, very long time. Close your front door, take a few steps, and travel to Downtown in 15 minutes, Commercial/Broadway in 7 minutes and YVR in 48 minutes. An effortless, smart lifestyle – that’s what Brentwood offers.

Depart from the connected SkyTrain© platform and arrive in the one-acre outdoor plaza and an amphitheatre of activity. From there, walk in any direction toward gourmet restaurants, an exclusive movie theatre, an inviting wine bar, or home.

The Beauty. Take in 360-degree views of this new urban space and everything it offers. Admire the twinkly lights rising up the impressive staircase, the grand fountain’s cascading waters, and pathways leading to leafy, tucked-away spaces for moments of privacy and quiet.

The Wow. Day and night, Brentwood’s plaza will be the social hub of Burnaby, complete with a cascading waterfall and street after street of shopping bliss. Its bustling centre will also be the stage for world-class festivals and events that you can watch with the crowd or high above from your home’s well-positioned patio.

SHOPPING
The Amazing Brentwood will be a true entertainment district, home to 350+ shops and dining venues carefully chosen to include global brands and one-of-a-kind retailers you won’t find anywhere else. Convenient enough to pop by for an hour and diverse enough to entertain you for a lifetime, Brentwood will be the day-and-night, indoor-outdoor City Centre that Metro Vancouver has been waiting for.

We looked to global hot spots to inspire our high-fashion street, the amazing Brentwood Boulevard. Saunter down its two city blocks, stopping for an espresso at one of the local micro-roasters or pastry shops, before admiring its stunning window displays and shopping for the most iconic names in fashion.

The Plaza offers a welcoming open space with all the buzz and atmosphere of New York’s Times Square. Popular fashion brands will line the sidewalks, mixing and mingling with patios, public houses and casual dining. The Plaza will become Brentwood’s pedestrian-friendly social hub, offering equal parts shopping and socializing.

Keen shoppers looking for a truly boutique, European-style retail experience will make the West Mews their first stop. One-of-a-kind brands, designer stores and unique restaurants offering high-quality apparel and cuisine will please even the most discerning connoisseurs in the city.

Welcome inside the completely reimagined Brentwood Mall. Beautiful new finishes and decor will elevate the shopping environment, while a mix of favourite stores, along with exciting new shops and services, will create a place you’ll want to return to again and again.

DINING
Delicious, diverse food is an essential part of the Brentwood experience, with venues to please your palate wherever your tastes lie. Venues range from bistros to brew pubs, social to romantic, tapas to dim sum, all-season outdoor lounges to our indoor gourmet Brentwood Market. We’re even planning to bring popular food trucks to Brentwood for an urban on-the-go dining experience that changes from week to week.

An exciting new place to dine with Vancouver’s top culinary stars is coming. Vibrant energy will live on from day to night as the space is surrounded by all-season al fresco patios, colourful umbrellas and the constant buzz of social interaction.

Charming character and a unique collection of bars, casual restaurants and grab-and-go kiosks are found in the Grand Lobby and West Mews. Here, glass enclosures open completely for a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor seating, similar to venues in Gastown and Yaletown.

Warmed by patio heaters and illuminated by beautiful lights, this private escape offers guests a special location for fine dining. Crisp white tablecloths, set tables, candles and expansive wine selections distinguish this chef-driven courtyard dining experience.

A fascinating assortment of specialty food stores, cookware shops, coffee kiosks and small eateries offering everything from Neapolitan pizza to the city’s freshest sushi. Inspired by the best marketplaces of the world, Brentwood Market will be located in the upper level, which connects the new plaza to the existing shopping centre.

ARTS, CULTURE & ENTERTAINMENT
Desirable cities not only build great gathering spaces — they also find ways to bring them to life all year long. The same will happen at Brentwood. Restaurant tables will extend onto the sidewalks and lively seasonal events will spread holiday cheer. Enjoy live musical concerts in the plaza while the streets animate with buskers and kiosks. An art show might catch your attention one day, while the next it’s a craft beer tasting on the new Brentwood Boulevard. The itinerary will always change at Brentwood, but one thing is certain: your social calendar is about to get a lot more interesting.

Brentwood’s amazing one-acre plaza offers all this: Celebrations. Dazzling lights. Live events. West Coast design. Exhibits. Pop-up markets. A gathering place. Water play and interactive fountains. Al fresco dining. Signature restaurants. Sunday brunch spots. Iconic names in fashion. Inviting patios. Timeless architecture. People-watching galore. And stunning public art to add richness to this amazing environment.

Brentwood will deliver the most jaw-dropping Christmas events in every way. The most beautiful tree, the most extraordinary lights, the best-sounding carollers and the most spot-on Santa. That’s a guarantee.

Everybody can get behind just-picked produce in their morning smoothies. That’s why we’ll partner with local growers to bring you fresh fruit, veg and artisanal goods at a summertime market.

The Plaza has an amphitheatre-style design that throws off some great acoustics. So let’s strike up the band – everyone from kids’ choirs to seeing major headliners when they come to town.

Love VIP film nights? Wine tastings? Fashion shows? Parades? Canucks playoff games projected onto a gigantic outdoor screen? So do we. We’ll create endless fun ways to get together with friends and new neighbours.

SERVICE & SECURITY
Shape Properties will remain the owners and managers of the entire Brentwood City Centre. This means that our exacting standards for service, security, cleanliness and downright friendliness will be felt 365 days, 24 hours a day by both visitors and homeowners. Come see for yourself.

Living at Brentwood means having your every whim catered to by a friendly, engaged team. Shape Properties is proud to offer an exceptional level of service and security that you’ll see, feel and love on every street, on every corner.

Keep In Touch: Shape Properties’ staff are available in person and online to make your experience as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Call, email or tweet with a concern or suggestion and we’ll get right back to you.

I believe the thread has evolved away from the physical properties of the building to how it will involve to become the top suburban shopping experience ahead of the shopping centre in West Vancouver and Metrotown.

Strange but interesting.
