I'm not entirely sure on the location, but it has been rumoured that it will be directly on Elmwood north of the TCH, possibly at the new intersection they will be building for the Elmwood Home Hardware commercial development........
The plan is on Caledonia. There is a plot of land between the last houses at the beginning of Caledonia rd and the Truck shop (directly across from the off ramp). One problem that appeared this spring however was the fact that the land had 6 feet of water there after the snow melt...

I see the structural steel is up for the plaza behind the new Starbucks on Elmwood Drive. This will allow them to continue construction over the winter period.

They have started the construction of the 60 bed expansion of the Villa du Repos special care facility.
I think this is a well needed addition to the health care facilities in the area.

I just heard a rumour from a Real Estate Agent that a block of houses at the corner of Caledonia and Elmwood (directly across from the new Home Hardware development) were in the process of being purchased by Irving.

Is the gas station following Home Hardware's move?

I've heard a rumour this week that Irving will put a big stop by the new Home Hardware. That would make sense

This rumour is true. I know a couple who own a triplex along there and they have been in negotiations for a few weeks now with Cobalt. Things are looking well for the "sellers", but not signed yet.

I mentioned on this thread a few pages back, that the "sellers" were asked to sell about 20 years ago (just after the time the TCH was finished being twinned), which of course did not pan out. This strip of land has been in someone's mind (Irving) for quite a long time for future development.

But will it be a "Big Stop"?

There are Big Stops in Aulac (50 km away) and Salisbury (25 km away). Do they need another one in the middle??? Also, you don't ofter see Big Stops in urban environments.

This property however is at the border of the Caledonia Industrial Park, which contains one of the largest concentrations of trucking, transportation and distribution companies in the region so a Big Stop is not entirely out of the question. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.......

I was thinking the same thing, although the Big Stops are very popular and always busy. Instead of standing in line, these truckers can just easily skip to the next one. Also I could see the Industrial Park giving them loads of business at lunch. The lunch time crowd keeps Hungry's on Baig open.

Renderings and site plan for the new fire station on Caledonia Road at the west end of the Caledonia Industrial Park:

This image shows the precise location of the new fire station.

That clutch of houses that you can see just to the west of the new fire station, located at the corner of Caledonia and Elmwood is apparently the block of land that Cobalt is trying to consolidate for a new gas station (possibly a Big Stop).

Between the fire station, the presumed Big Stop project and the Home Hardware retail plaza development, this will be a very busy part of town over the next couple of years..........

Welcome to the forums, but please note that we don't claim to be an authoritative source of information. As far as our contributors know, Cobalt is only negotiating with the landowners. This does not mean that any sale has been finalized. I wouldn't use the information here as a guide as to whether to move or not.

Sorry pjmisener, if the owners of the houses / properties can come to an agreement soon then these houses will be no more come this time next year . I can only assume that you are renting, because the real estate rep has been basically tying up loose ends with the majority of the owners (unless you are not checking your mail or your phone messages). Some have already signed, but a very reliable source has mentioned that the buyers would like to take possession late spring / early summer of 2015.

The other thing I can not confirm is if the "buyers" are looking to purchase all of the properties from the soon to be built fire station to the end of Caledonia Road and down Elmwood. I can not imagine them not buying all of the properties as they would be seeking to have a large corner lot for their "project".

I see the signage going up today. Looks like it will be a poker hall and a PIZZA SHACK combo location.

I see that they have cleared another large lot of land on the eastern end of Frenette Avenue in the Caledonia Industrial Park. I wager this is in preparation for the spring construction season.

I presume this will be another warehouse or trucking type facility, but I have no intel on this..........

The sewer work on the section of Elmwood just north of the TCH is complete. They expect repaving to be done on Monday (weather permitting).

The asphalt coat will presumably be temporary. This is the section of Elmwood that will be torn up and widened next year, mostly to accommodate the new Home Hardware retail development, the new fire station and the presumed Big Stop. A new intersection leading into the retail development will be constructed (and signalized) next year as well.

Speaking to one of the (former) home owners on Caledonia and Elmwood, it's his belief that most, if not all, of the houses have been purchased with construction of the new Irving set to begin as early as April.
