The residents are starting a petition drive but i am wondering how realistic this zoning change is.
nimby alert ..... nimby alert!

nice website bro ..... next time consider maybe the site www.fiverr.com and spend $5 on a site that will come out way more professional looking than that ... oh ya nice render!

Do not read the petition comments on that site. Those NIMBYs are far worse than the people at The Jameson...

The very premise of the website is flawed: the potential building will never shade the park. Plus this was settled 3 years ago...

Thanks for the comments about 1450 Granville. What is funny is that the email to the residents was sent by Rancho Mgmt, the strata management company for the complex, so they should have known this was part of the plan years ago and I wonder why they bring it up now?

For a website that you all think is a joke, you sure are giving it a lot of attention.

So did the city allow 7 extra stories sometime between consultation and approval?

Hmmm the central part of Robson from Burrard to Bute won't allow highrises.

Any farther west than Bute and you are in largely residential "neighbourhood" areas, not "high end" territory.

To the east (east of Granville) isn't really "high end" territory either - and there are only 3 potential development locations (SW Robson & Beatty / SW Robson & Richards / SW Robson & Seymour).

Maybe it could be off Robson - i.e. Redevelopment at Burrard & Alberni?

Maybe someone else more familiar with the West End Community Plan could take a guess.

In theory, there are two 60-storey redevelopment sites on the south side of Alberni, between Burrard and Thurlow (i.e., the luxury retail district), according to the West End Community Plan. See page 4: http://vancouver.ca/files/cov/west-end-community-plan-june-open-house-board-streets.pdf

There are rumoured to be plans for something on the SE Corner of Robson & Cambie that ties the heritage component of the building on the ground floor in. Alternatively perhaps the Landmark is going to get renovated, re-done and go Ritz? along Robson you are right there is very limited potential. The area of Robson west of the "shopping" district requires 20% social housing where the towers are allowed, can't see a Ritz going in there with that mix.

This site was bought by Amacon and the highrise portion will be residential.

What about the site south of the Telus residential tower?

Those 60 storey sites at Burrard & Alberni are probably the most likely I would think - esp. if they have to partner with a condo component to make it economically viable.

The Catholic Charities Building is the one I meant when I said SW Robson & Beatty - forgot there was an alley in there - so I guess there are 2 sites on that block. But I doubt that's Ritz Carlton territory.

That's the only one I could see being remotely "high end" east of Granville - SW corner Robson & Richards.

I also think the 60-floor sites are the likely one and I like the idea. Something incredible might be underway if that would happen.

Westin is east of Granville and J.W. Marriott is going to the casino complex, so east of Granville is not "bad" area, but I think Ritz-Carlton will want something special. They are also the same chain as J.W. Marriott, so I think they will be going more go west of Downtown.

I was thinking shopping amenities, that type of thing, rather than dirty streets, etc.
East of Granville does have cultural amenities, but hotel guest could taxi to those for events.

The site hasn't been purchased by Amacon. They have the site optioned. The Catholic Arch Diocese still owns the site.

Anyone knows why that lot at the corner across Robson Street from Landmark hotel is always vacant? Something tall, nice and majestic could be built there.

Why don't they move their 100 bed shelter to their new big space at oak and 33rd??? The church says they are concerned about the shelter. Well then why didn't they move it along with their offices?
